MARLINGTON MEETING – Marlington Local Schools Board of Education plans a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Marlington High School Digital Learning Zone, 10450 Moulin Ave. in Lexington Township.The board announced it might recess into executive session for conferences with an attorney concerning disputes involving the public body that are the subject of pending or imminent court action. The board announced in a news release that action is expected after the executive session. Pending absence of technological issues, the meeting will be live-streamed on the Marlington Local Schools Technology Department YouTube channel.

STARK STATE OPEN HOUSES – Stark State College’s summer open houses, intended to help students learn how they can spend less for a college education, will be 5-7 p.m. July 27 at main campus, 6200 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township; and 5-7 p.m. Aug. 2 at 360 Perkins St. in Akron. Prospective students can learn about degrees and certificates the college offers, speak with admissions reps, take tours, enjoy refreshments and get a free T-shirt. Financial aid staff will be on hand. Students who graduated from high school in 2023 are eligible for free fall tuition. RODMAN FUNDRAISER – Applebee's will host a dine-to-donate event to benefit Friends of Rodman Public Library all day Wednesday. Patrons can help support the library and its activities by eating at the Alliance Applebee's location and telling their server that they wish to support the Friends of Rodman Public Library. Flyers are available at Rodman Library’s main and branch locations. Applebee's will donate 15% of your check to the Friends of RPL. The offer is good for dine-in and takeout orders, but NOT delivery orders. Those ordering online should use the code DOINGOOD for their check to count toward the fundraiser.

BELOIT COUNCIL – Beloit Village Council plans a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall. Purpose of the meeting is a discussion of the fire levy. All committees will meet immediately after the special meeting.

WHEEL LOCKS – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is giving away steering wheel locks to the owners of Kia and Hyundai vehicles that were manufactured between 2011 and 2022. These vehicles have been at the center of an ongoing trend of theft because they lack ignition immobilizers. Thieves break into a rear window of the vehicle to avoid setting off the car alarm, removing the steering wheel column, and using either a screwdriver or USB charging cable to start the vehicle. Hundreds of these vehicles have been reported stolen so far this year in Stark County. Those interested in claiming a free steering wheel lock should visit the Sheriff’s Office, 4500 Atlantic Blvd. NE in Canton between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. To receive the lock, individuals must present a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. Supplies are limited. SALEM SCHOOLS – Salem City Schools Board of Education has canceled Monday’s regular board meeting and its special meeting. The meetings have been rescheduled for July 31.

ALLIANCE PARKS – City of Alliance Board of Park Commissioners will meet at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Park office, 2930 S. Union Ave.

AASC FUNDRAISER – Alliance Area Senior Center’s 7th annual fundraiser “The Grape Event” will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the center, 602 W. Vine St. Tickets for the event, featuring Ohio wines, cost $20 in advance, or $23 at the door. Tickets include fresh-baked artesian bread and oil; four tastings; and cheese and snacks. Attendees can purchase additional tasting tickets or wine by the glass during the event. Raffles and music will be part of the event, which is for those ages 21 and older. Tickets can be purchased at Alliance Area Senior Center, or by calling 330-821-3348.

PORK DINNER – Deerfield American Legion Post 713 plans a pulled pork and barbecue chicken dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. July 29 at the Legion, 1517 State Route 14 in Deerfield. Meal includes pulled Pork and/or a half chicken, corn, baked potato, coleslaw, baked beans, roll and beverage. Meals are $15. Takeout included.
