Area news in brief for July 8

NATURALIST SERIES – Mahoning County OSU Extension is offering a series of free classes about nature. This speaker series invites subject matter experts to share their knowledge and research regarding different aspects of nature. Subjects range from animals, plants, insects, and more. All events are free and occur on various dates through November 2022. All classes are at 6:30 p.m. in the Mahoning County Extension Office at 490 S. Broad St. in Canfield. The next event, The Secrets of Tree I.D., will be July 20. Kathy Smith, director of forestry at Ohio State University’s School of Environment and Natural Resources, will discuss the process of tree identification and how you can get a better eye for determining what trees are in your backyard, the park and beyond. SALEM HISTORICAL – Salem Historical Society will present a program called “Warren: Ohio’s Millionaire’s Row” at 7 p.m. July 12 at Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave. Non-members are welcome to attend.
