COUNTRY DANCE – Canton Country Music will play host to a dance from 2 to 5 p.m. April 2 at Polish American Club, 1605 Henry Ave. SW in Canton. Music will be provided by Pat Massie & PM Country Band. Admission is $3 at the door and is open to the public. Doors open at 1 p.m. Food will be available as well as 50/50 drawing and lottery tree. No dance on April 9, which is Easter.

RODMAN BOARD – Rodman Public Library’s Board of Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the conference room at the main library.

SCHOOL AUCTION – Lake Center Christian School’s 37th annual auction will feature online and live auctions. The online auction will run April 19-23, and a live dinner auction will run 4 to 7 p.m. April 29 at the school in Hartville. Community members are invited to participate at www.lccs.com/auction, where you can learn how to donate an item, buy dinner tickets, register to bid, preview items and engage as a sponsor. Included in this year’s theme will be a silent dessert auction category called “Tasty Tiger Treats.” Up for bid will be cakes and cookies decorated in school colors of blue, gold and white. BBB SHRED EVENT – The Better Business Bureau Serving Canton Region & Greater West Virginia plans its 17th annual Shred & e-Cycle event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 1 in the parking lot of Central Catholic High School, 4824 Tuscarawas St. W in Canton. The event is free, and businesses and individuals can bring documents that list personal or financial information to be commercially shredded onsite. E-cycling of electronics will also be available. Items may include batteries, cable, cell phones, circuit boards, computers, game consoles, ink and toner cartridges, IT equipment, keyboards, laptops, modems and monitors. Fees are required for some items. Monitors will cost $5 apiece to recycle; televisions will cost $10; and fluorescent lightbulbs cost $1 for four feet or smaller, and $2 for eight feet.

CONGRESSIONAL ART – U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, announced high school students in Eastern Ohio can participate in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition, with a theme of “An Artistic Discovery.” The winning student-artist will be invited to Washington, D.C., to take part in a national reception, and have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. All high school students living in the 6th Congressional District can participate, regardless of where they attend high school – public, private, home school or online. Submissions are due by April 24th, and can either be mailed or delivered in-person to Johnson’s district offices in Marietta, at 246 Front St.; or Mahoning, at 4137 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 106. Winners will be notified during the first week of May. Artwork must be no larger than 26 x 26 x 4 including the frame, and can weigh no more than 15 pounds. The artwork should be original in design, concept and execution. Acceptable media includes paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor; drawings in pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink and markers; collages; prints such as lithographs, silkscreen and block prints; mixed media, which is more than two of the above media; computer-generated art; or photography.
