Area news in brief for May 29

IRISH FESTIVAL – Mahoning Valley Irish Festival will return to Youngstown for 2023, and will be held July 21-22 at Penguin City Brewing Company, 460 E. Federal St. Kids Day and other special activities will be on Saturday. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. July 21; and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 22. The festival will include two stages and a larger footprint. The Festival Committee is seeking sponsorships and collaborations, basket raffle donations, vendors, entertainment and volunteers. The event will include a Neurodiversity Tent, for individuals who might experience sensory overload, anxiety or other stress from loud music, lights or crowds. MARLBORO EVENTS – Marlboro Township Historical Society plans an ice cream social from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the society’s headquarters on the square. New Baltimore Ice Cream will be served before the parade kickoff. Also Monday, tours of the Dr. Kersey G. Thomas House on Marlboro Square will be available. No charge for events, but donations will be accepted.

FIRST FRIDAY – Alliance First Friday will run 4 to 8 p.m. June 2 along East Main Street. Events will include the first show in Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Concert Series at the downtown Caboose, featuring Jimmy and the Soul Blazers performing at 6 p.m. Rodman Library’s Bookmobile will be on East Main Street, with storytime at 6:30 p.m. A sidewalk chalk art contest will be held. Participants should bring their own chalk and are invited to upload photos of their projects on the event’s Facebook page. Horse-drawn carriage rides, available for $5, will be sponsored by Carnation City Players. Raffle baskets will be available for bidding. And Dan Rice of Alliance will perform piano music at Thebes.

SEBRING COUNCIL – Sebring Village Council plans a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Purpose of the meeting is discussion of West Branch/Beloit water contract, and personnel issues.

ALLIANCE TREASURY – City of Alliance Treasury Investment Board will meet at noon June 6 in the City Auditor’s Office, 504 E. Main St. Purpose of the meeting is review and approval of investments.
