Area news in brief for Nov. 16

RODMAN CLOSURE – Rodman Public Library and its Branch Library will close at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday and will remain closed all day Nov. 24. Both facilities will be open for normal business hours Nov. 25.

APPLE DUMPLINGS – They are going fast, but apple dumplings will be sold through Nov. 23 at Union Avenue United Methodist Church in Alliance. Sales will run longer if supplies last. Hours for weekday sales are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A bag of six dumplings sells for $12, and all money made goes to support nonprofits.

TROLLEY TOUR – Seats remain for the 10 a.m. Nov. 26 Salem Historical Society Underground Railroad tours. Cost is $15 a person. Walk ups, if space available, are welcome before departure at the Dale Shaffer Library 239 S. Lundy Ave. The trolley is handicapped accessible. SARTA BOARD – SARTA’s Board of Directors plans a special meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday at SARTA's main office, 1600 Gateway Blvd. SE in Canton. Purpose of the meeting is to approve the 2023 annual budget and operational contracts for the next year.

GRANGE BREAKFAST – Smith Grange, 11090 Beloit Snodes Road, plans its monthly breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Cost is $11 for those ages 13 and older; $5 for ages 6 to 12; and free for those ages 5 and younger. Meals is available for either dine in or carryout.

RABIES VACCINE – Mahoning County Public Health plans a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets at Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road in Canfield. The event will run 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 20. In Mahoning, rabies vaccination is required for all dogs, cats and ferrets over 3 months of age. Cost is $8 per rabies shot, cash only. Pet owners must have their pets on a leash, in a cage or inside a pillowcase. This is a low-cost clinic that does not include a physical examination of the animal. Veterinary staff reserves the right not to vaccinate any animal in the event the animal appears to be in poor health. To receive the three-year booster, bring proof of prior rabies vaccination on or after Nov. 20, 2021. Without proof, the pet will receive a one-year vaccination. No appointment is necessary for rabies vaccinations.

MEMORY TREE – Aultman Foundation is offering community members the chance to honor fallen loved ones at this year’s Light Up a Life Memory Tree ceremony. The 16th annual event will be held 6 p.m. Dec. 13 via Zoom. Families, friends and local businesses are invited to sponsor a light in memory or in honor of a loved one with a $25 contribution. Tribute wreath sponsorships are also available for a $250 donation. Names of those sponsored will be prominently displayed in Aultman’s Bedford lobby in Canton, Aultman Alliance Community Hospital and the Compassionate Care Center lobby throughout the holiday season. Sponsors may choose where they want their tribute wreaths displayed. Proceeds will benefit all Aultman hospice patients and grief support programs. Sponsorships will be accepted through Dec. 5. Those who make a donation will receive the invitation to attend the Zoom program and watch with family and friends. WEST BRANCH – West Branch Local Schools’ Board of Education plans a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the West Branch High School Media Room, 14277 S. Main St. in Beloit. A work session to review regular agenda items will be 5:30 p.m. in the same place. Both sessions are open to the public.

CRAFT FAIR − Regina Coeli Catholic School, 733 Fernwood Blvd. in Alliance, plans a Vendor and Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Santa Claus will be on hand, and parents are welcome to take photos of their children. Admission is free, and food and raffle baskets will be among the items available.
