Area news in brief for Nov. 21

LIBRARY CLOSURE – Rodman Public Library and its Branch Library will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. It will remain closed Thursday. Both facilities will be open for normal business hours on Friday.

VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS – Glamorgan Castle Crusaders Present "A Children’s Victorian Christmas" from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3. The castle, at 200 Glamorgan St. in Alliance, will be open and decorated for tours and photos. Santa & Friends will be there. Goodie Bags will go to the first 100 children. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. The event is the Crusaders’ winter 2022 fundraiser.

FABULOUS FOOD FEST – Women's Division of Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce plans its Fabulous Food Fest and Holiday Auction at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Don Pancho’s. Dinner will begin 5:30 p.m., and browsing will begin at 6 p.m., with 50/50 drawing at 6:25 p.m., and auction starting at 6:30 p.m. Cost for dinner is $16, which includes tax and tip. Dinner selections include the Mexican dinner, grilled chicken breast dinner, chicken fajita taco salad or beef or chicken fajita dinner. Dessert is included. A cash bar will be available. All auction proceeds will go to women's and children's charities in Alliance.

BELOIT COUNCIL – Beloit Village Council plans a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Village Hall. Purpose of meeting is to approve roof bids, open letters for solicitors and review estimates for equipment. Action might be taken.

WELLNESS EVENT – Stark County Health Department, Beacon Charitable Pharmacy and Matrix Medical Network plan a health and wellness outreach event from noon to 4 p.m. at Foltz Community Center, 224 N. Wood St. in East Canton. Attendees can receive free resources, education and an opportunity to receive flu shots and COVID-19 vaccinations, including an updated fall booster shot. The Matrix Core 4 health assessment program also will be available to provide blood sugar, blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol screenings. Beacon Charitable Pharmacy will provide education, prescription medication assistance and Narcan kits to help prevent drug overdoses. The health department will offer free sanitizer, boxes of masks, COVID test kits and other information about their programs and services. Attendees should visit flowcode.com/p/C1ceSbDIP to fill out a survey and share their opinion about the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations.COURT REPORTERS – Stark State College and Clark State Community College will add new certificates and new software to their current curriculum. Beginning in January, the online program will add a digital reporting certificate program with two short-term certificate tracks (professional digital reporter or professional digital editor) to their current judicial court reporting degree program. The new certificate programs will educate students on Stenograph’s digital court reporting software MAXScribe using material from the Stenograph Digital Reporting Academy. The combined program, approved by the National Court Reporters Association, maintains a 100% job placement rate. SALEM SCHOOLS – Salem City Schools Board of Education plans a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Salem High School to review board goals. The board then plans a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Salem High School Library.

SEBRING COUNCIL – Sebring Village Council will meet for a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Village Hall. Topic for the meeting will be the village’s 2023 budget.

SILVER PARK – Mark your calendar for the annual Christmas kickoff event at Alliance’s Silver Park, including a new Candy Cane Lane for toddlers, craft stations, hot cocoa and more. Don’t miss Santa Claus’ visit, held this year in the new Robertson Lodge. More information for the event, which will run 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3, will be upcoming.

THANKSGIVING DINNER – American Legion Post 076, 395 California Ave. in Sebring, will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24. Full Thanksgivng dinner with all the trimmings will be available for dine-in or carryout.

CLOTHED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS FUNDRAISER – Pasta Fundraiser to benefit Clothed in Righteousness will be 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at Almost Home Event Center in Sebring.
