Area news in brief for Oct. 27

SRMC OPEN HOUSE – The Look Nook Gift Shop at Salem Regional Medical Center plans a special Holiday Customer Open House from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 4. New seasonal décor and apparel will be featured. In addition, all purchases over $10 will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a holiday wall canvas. A 15% discount will be offered off total purchases (some exclusions apply). All sales are final. The Look Nook is on the hospital’s ground floor next to the cafeteria.

ARTIST VISIT – SRMC’s Look Nook Gift Shop plans an encaustic beeswax painting demonstration by local author and artist Karen Biery, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 11. Select paintings from Biery’s collection will be available for purchase at this event. Biery will donate the 20 x 20 “Monoscape Tree” encaustic beeswax painting from her demonstration, valued at $450, to be used in a raffle. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase Nov. 11 to Dec. 16 for $1 or $6 for 5 tickets. During the demonstration hours only, any purchase made in the Look Nook Gift Shop of $10 or more will receive two raffle ticket entries for the drawing. The drawing will be noon Dec. 16. ALLIANCE PLANNING – Alliance City Planning Commission's meeting for November has been canceled, as no items were submitted.

MARLINGTON FINANCE – Marlington Local Schools' Board of Education plans a Financial Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the district's Administrative Offices, 10320 Moulin Ave. NE in Lexington Township. Purpose of the meeting is to review the five-year forecast and discuss the financial status of the district.
