YWCA FESTIVAL – YWCA of Alliance has announced its free Fall Festival will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at its facility at 239 E. Market St. The event will include a trunk-or-treat, music, fall crafts, balloon artist, light snacks and refreshments. Organizers also are seeking volunteers to help with trunk decorations and at the event, and with donations of candy for event.

GHOST TOURS – Quakertown Trolley will stop at legendary "haunted" sites in and around Salem, where guests will seek to make ghost sightings. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Sept 30 at Salem Historical Society. In addition to wearing good walking shoes, guests are welcome to bring any ghost hunting devices or apps with them. The hunt will last about four hours and will cost $30 per person. The tour will begin at 239 S. Lundy. Reservations are recommended by calling 330-205-3923. LUNCH AND LEARN – Columbiana Women’s Club plans a Lunch & Learn event at noon Sept. 25 at the club headquarters, 121 N. Main St. in Columbiana. Retired educator Patricia Tingle will speak on “Exploring & Experiencing Children’s Books.” The discussion will help participants “delve into the world of children’s literature, experiencing pop-ups, classics, collectibles and Caldecott winners from Tingle’s private collection.” For more information, call 330-482-2832 or email Columbiana.Womens.Club@Gmail.com.

MOUNT UNION MASTERCLASS – University of Mount Union’s Performing Arts Department will present a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Presser Recital Hall in the Cope Music Hall. The recital will feature Dr. Jenny Cruz and Dr. Nanyi Qiang, duo piano. Cruz is a professor of piano and the chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Central State University. Qiang is an associate professor of music at Central State University in the Columbus area, teaching Class Piano as well as Collaborative Piano. The performance will include the following pieces: “Porgy and Bess” by George Gershwin; “Kaintuck” by William Grant Still; excerpts from “West Side Story: Symphonic Dances” by Leonard Bernstein; and “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla. COUNTRY MUSIC – Canton Country Music has announced the next dances at American Legion, 1633 Cleveland Ave. NW. Kenny Falls Band will play Oct. 1, and Along the Way Band will play Oct. 8. Donation is $3 at the door for the event that is open to the public. Doors open at 1:15, music and dancing is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

ART HEIST – Alliance Area Domestic Violence Center will host “Art Heist at the Commons” at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at The Commons, 405 S. Linden Ave. The event will feature a performance by The Candlelight Mystery Players. Come for dinner and help discover who has stolen the missing art piece. ROSE SALE – Alliance Lions Club has kicked off its 2023 Rose Day sales. Call 330-823-1632 to order roses for $20 per dozen. Delivery to businesses will be Oct. 27; and other delivery will be Oct. 28. Deadline for orders is Oct. 19.

ORGANIZED CRIME – Salem Public Library will play host to historian Sean T. Posey, who will present a factual history of some of the Mahoning Valley’s most prolific criminal undertakings. The discussion will be 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Quaker Room of Salem Public Library. Posey will take guests back through the rise of various criminal organizations, the infamous Jungle Inn gambling ring, tenacious mob wars and, more recently, the corruption of high-profile public officials. SWISS STEAK – Grace United Church of Christ in Lake Township, 13275 Cleveland Ave., plans a Swiss steak dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 30. All are welcome to the buffet meal of Swiss steak, noodles, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw or applesauce, green beans, rolls, coffee or tea, and choice of dessert. Dinner is $14 for adults, $7 for ages 4 to 12; and free for ages 3 and younger. A hot dog option is available for children, and Grace UCC youth will sell $1 soda as an activity fundraiser. WRITERS’ ALLIANCE – Writers’ Alliance, a group for those who like to create with words and share their work with others, will resume meeting at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at Rodman Public Library. WEST BRANCH – West Branch Local Schools Board of Education plans a 5:30 p.m. work session and 6 p.m. regular meeting on Monday in West Branch High School’s Media Room, 14277 S. Main St. in Beloit.

SENIOR CENTER – Alliance Area Senior Center has announced the date for its 2024 tour presentation for Hawaiian Adventure, Alaska Discovery Land and Cruise and Canyon Country has been changed. The meeting will be 1 p.m. Oct. 19. Contact Alliance Senior Center at 330-821-3348 with concerns.

SQUARE DANCE – The Friendly Squares plan their Halloween Dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 14 at Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St. Gene Hammond will be the caller.
