Area police officers participate in 'Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics'

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY – History was made today in Tuscarawas County as the “Flame of Hope” was passed from Strasburg to Dover, Dover to New Philadelphia, and from Sugarcreek westward. Police officers from each municipality carried the torch as it makes its way to The Ohio State University for the Friday start of the Ohio Summer Games.

According to Doylestown Officer Nate Samples, who was serving as Northeast Ohio Torch Run organizer, it had been 41 years since this event was run through the county. He said, "I think (previous organizers] got set in their ways of doing things. When I looked at the map, I said, 'why aren't we down in Tusc?' This is a no-brainer. The previous leaders missed out on a lot by not coming here. And, as long as I am a leg-leader, it will always come through here."
