Area Roundup: AAE boys soccer scores 3 second-half goals, tops Big Bear
The Academy for Academic Excellence boys soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over Big Bear on Friday afternoon.
The Knights picked up their second win in Cross Valley League action. Both victories are against the Bears, and AAE scored five goals in each meeting.
The Knights took a 2-1 lead at the half on goals by David Aguirre, but Big Bear took a 3-2 lead.
But AAE scored three unanswered goals for the victory.
Alejandro Aguirre, Logan Wills and Elijah Vega each scored a goal.
Marco Miramontes, Tommy Shore, Brandon Pawsey, Alejandro Aguirre and Wills each recorded an assist.
Goalkeeper Liam McDonald made five saves in goal.
The Knights (5-8-1, 2-3-1 CVL) are back in action Wednesday at CIMS.
PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL
Apple Valley 41, Sultana 40
At Hesperia, Za’kiya Oliver nailed the game-winning shot at the buzzer to push the Sun Devils past the Sultans on Friday night.
Oliver ended with 15 points. Sara Wahl scored eight points with 12 rebounds.
Apple Valley (10-10, 3-3 Mojave River League) hosts Oak Hills on Wednesday.

Oak Hills 1, Hesperia 0
At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs handed the Scorpions their second consecutive loss Friday afternoon.
Jordan Guerrero scored the game’s lone goal, and goalkeeper Tony Bataz tallied eight saves in the shutout.
Oak Hills (9-2-6, 3-2-1 Mojave River League) travels to Apple Valley on Wednesday, while Hesperia (10-5, 4-2 MRL) hosts Serrano.

AAE 1, Big Bear 0
At Apple Valley, Sophie Castillo’s goal in the 75th minute pushed the Knights over the Bears for their first league victory Friday afternoon.
Castillo scored on an assist from Brooke Ebright. Goalkeeper Kaydence Langley recorded seven saves in the shut out.
AAE (6-7, 1-4 Cross Valley League) is on the road Jan. 28 against University Prep.
