Area Roundup: Adelanto soccer tops Silverado, moves to 3-0 in DSL action

The Adelanto boys soccer team took sole possession of first place in the Desert Sky League standings with a 3-0 victory over Silverado on Friday night.

The Saints entered the contest tied with Victor Valley in the league standings. But Victor Valley lost 1-0 to Granite Hills, putting Adelanto ahead in the standings.

Three different players scored the goals for Adelanto within a span of 12 minutes.

David Barajas put the Saints on the board with a goal in the 18th minute.

Humberto Gonzalez doubled the lead in the 27th minute, scoring on an assist from Fernando Orozco.

Damian Espinoza scored the team’s final goal three minutes later, giving Adelanto a commanding 3-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the half.

The Saints fired off 13 shots on goal, including eight from Espinoza.

In goal, Jesus Bobadilla made one save to record the shutout.

The Saints (13-8-1, 3-0 DSL) are back home Wednesday night against Victor Valley, while Silverado (5-11-3, 0-2-1 DSL) hosts Barstow.

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Hesperia Christian 65, AAE 62

At Apple Valley, the Patriots rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Knights in a thriller Friday night.

Hesperia Christian trailed by 15 at halftime and 49-38 entering the fourth quarter.

Jared Bragg led the way for the Patriots by dropping 30 points with 10 rebounds.

Cody New added 15 points and nine rebounds, and Arlan Koestar also scored 15 points to go along with six rebounds.

Hesperia Christian (7-5, 5-2 Cross Valley League) heads to Big Bear on Tuesday night.

Oak Hills 77, Burroughs 44

At Oak Hills, five players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs in a 33-point victory over the Burros on Thursday.

Kenneth Brown led the way with 13 points and four steals; Monsour Sanneh scored 12 points with seven rebounds; Isaiah Sharky also scored 12 points with six rebounds; Vieux Sanneh added 11 points with five rebounds; and Mo Rios chipped in 11 points and three assists.

Oak Hills (9-10, 4-0 Mojave River League) is back in action Monday against Canyon, and resumes league play Tuesday at Serrano.

Hesperia 72, Apple Valley 51

At Apple Valley, Antony Newton Gomez scored 22 points and brought in seven rebounds as the Scorpions topped the Sun Devils on the road Thursday.

Newton Gomez made five three-pointers in the victory. Jessie Martinez ended with a double-double tallying 14 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.

Hesperia (13-6, 3-1 MRL) is back in action Monday against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, and resumes league action against Sultana on Tuesday.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Burroughs 51, Oak Hills 39

At Ridgecrest, the Bulldogs dropped to 2-2 in Mojave River League action with a loss to Burroughs on Friday night.

Kailey Rios scored 17 points with seven rebounds and two assists in the loss.

Oak Hills (7-12) hosts Serrano on Tuesday.

PREP BOYS SOCCER

Granite Hills 1, Victor Valley 0

At Victorville, the Cougars picked up their first victory in Desert Sky League play Friday night.

Zaine Rocca scored in the 30th minute on an assist from Cesar Sainz to lift Granite Hills. Goalkeeper Aden Gallegos made three saves in net.

Granite Hills (5-11-2, 1-1-1 DSL) heads to Barstow on Jan. 20, while Victor Valley (8-4, 2-1 DSL) is back in action Wednesday at Adelanto.

Hesperia 4, Apple Valley 1

At Apple Valley, Jared Miranda scored two goals to lead Thursday the Scorpions to their third victory in Mojave River League action.

Brandon Zavala scored a goal with an assist; Memo Ramirez also scored a goal; Chris Palacios and Alan Lopez each had an assist; and Nate Sanchez made five saves in goal.

Hesperia (9-6-3, 3-0-1 MRL) resumes league play on Tuesday against Sultana.

Oak Hills 6, Burroughs 1

At Oak Hills, Tauj Richardson scored two goals as the Bulldogs picked up their second victory in Mojave River League action Thursday.

Anderson Lemus scored a goal and assisted on two others; Nick Rodriguez ended with a goal and an assist; Ivan Vitela and Edgar Alvarez both scored a goal; and Ruben Rodriguez, D’Angelo Martinez and Jesus Candelas each had an assist.

Oak Hills  (9-5-3, 2-0-1 MRL) heads to Serrano on Tuesday.

Sultana 1, Serrano 1

At Hesperia, the Sultans took an early lead and the Diamondbacks battled back for the tie in the final minute of action Thursday night.

Steve Arevalo scored on a corner kick from Nathaniel Guzman in the opening minutes to give Sultana a lead.

The Sultans held the lead until the final minute when Joshua Martin fired a rebound off into the back of the net for the tie.

Serrano (8-10-1, 2-1-1 Mojave River League) is back in action Tuesday at home against Oak Hills, while Sultana (8-5-7, 0-0-2 MRL) heads to Hesperia.

PREP GIRLS SOCCER

Granite Hills 4, Victor Valley 1

At Apple Valley, the Cougars moved to 4-0 in Desert Sky League play with a victory over the Jackrabbits on Friday.

Samantha Grantham led the way for Granite Hills with a goal and assist; Makenzie Bohn, Lianna Tsabur and Josie Smith each scored a goal; Sophia Toranzo had one assist; and Analiese Castel recorded four saves in goal.

The Cougars (7-6-1) are back home Jan. 20 against Barstow.

Oak Hills 7, Burroughs 0

At Ridgecrest, Sydney Middaugh and Mollie Zielke both scored two goals to help lead the Bulldogs past the Burros on Thursday afternoon.

Middaugh also assisted on two other goals.

Takoah Castillo and Mikaela Maldanoado both scored a goal with an assist; Alyssa Vernon scored a goal; and Elizabeth Quiran and Rebecca Santillan each had an assist.

Oak Hills (5-5, 2-0 Mojave River League) are back home Tuesday against Serrano.

Apple Valley 3, Hesperia 0

At Hesperia, the Sun Devils improved to 3-0 in Mojave River League action with a victory over the Scorpions on Thursday.

Goalkeeper Maya Blodgett made four saves in the shutout, and Alia Collins and Savannah James each scored a goal.

Apple Valley (9-4-1) is back in action Tuesday at home against Burroughs.

Serrano 0, Sultana 0

At Phelan, the Diamondbacks and Sultans played to a draw in Mojave River League action Thursday afternoon.

The Diamondbacks took 13 shots on goal but couldn’t find the net. Serrano goalkeeper Ryann Munoz tallied a save.

The Diamondbacks (5-7-2, 2-1-1 MRL) are on the road Tuesday against Oak Hills.
