Area Roundup: Atkinson, Crittendon combine for 47 to lead Adelanto hoop past Granite Hills

Darren Atkinson and Kenyon Crittendon combined for 47 points as three players scored at least 20 points in the Adelanto boys basketball team’s 86-49 victory over Granite Hills on Thursday night.

Playing at home for the first time since Jan. 6, the Saints held the Cougars to 12 points in the first three quarters and allowed 13 in the fourth.

Atkinson led Adelanto with 24 points, and Crittendon scored 23.

Jaden Richards also scored 20 points, and Arthur Parker chipped in 13 points.

Adelanto has won two consecutive games and is now 3-2 in Desert Sky League action, with three games left to play.

Both teams are back in action Monday at Granite Hills. Adelanto will end its season looking to avenge league losses to Silverado and Victor Valley on Tuesday and Thursday.

11 local players on county’s all-star roster

Seven players from Oak Hills will participate in the 215 Football Classic All-Star game at Colton High School on Saturday afternoon.

Lealofi Chanwong, Andrew Garcia, Jayon Gillett, Buddha Peleti, Caden Perez, Joseph Rodriguez, and Mathyus Soliata will all represent the Bulldogs in the county’s squad that takes on the Riverside County all-stars.

Lance Henderson, Jeremy Hughes, Carlos Ramirez will represent Granite Hills.

Keenen Eck is the lone Apple Valley player on the team.

Eck and Peleti will line up alongside each other on the county’s stacked defensive line.

Eck was the state’s leader with 20 sacks on the season and was third on the team with eight tackles for a loss and second with 19 solo tackles.

Peleti earned the Mojave River League’s Defensive Player of the Year. Peleti recorded 58 total tackles, including 39 solo and 12 for a loss, six sacks, and caused a fumble.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m at Colton High School.

Adelanto 2, Granite Hills 2

At Adelanto, Damian Espinoza scored a goal for the Saints with four minutes to force a draw against the Hawks on Thursday night.

Adelanto took a 1-0 lead in the first half, and then Granite Hills’ Jason Kears scored on an assist from Sergio Torres five minutes later to even the score.

Nathaniel Rodriguez gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead 25 minutes into the second half on an assist by goalkeeper Chris Grantham, who blocked a penalty kick from Espinoza in the first half.

The tie keeps the Desert Sky League standings close as the end of the season nears.

Silverado currently sits in first place at 4-0-2 in league play. Granite Hills is second at 2-1-3 in DSL action, and Adelanto is third with a 2-2-2 record.

The Cougars (8-1-5) wrap up their season next week with two games against Victor Valley.

Adelanto (6-4-7) ends its season with Silverado on Tuesday, and Victor Valley on Thursday. The Saints lost both matchups earlier in the season.
