Area Roundup: Estrada leads way for Oak Hills, holds Apple Valley to one hit

Nyomi Estrada held Apple Valley to one hit on Thursday afternoon to help the Oak Hills softball team to a 5-0 victory.

Estrada was dominant in the circle and struck out nine batters, while allowing three walks.

Apple Valley’s lone hit was a single from Sam Dollar.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs tallied five hits, with Rylie Gresham-Center and Maddie Romo each picking up two.

Gresham-Center led the offense going 2 for 2 with four RBI and a run, while Romo went 2 for 2.

Holly Medina had Oak Hills’ only other hit. The star shortstop went 1 for 1 with two walks, two runs and two stolen bases.

Oak Hills scored three runs in the third inning, and added two more in the fifth.

The victory sets up a showdown with Sultana with sole possession of first place in the Mojave River League standings. Both Oak Hills and Sultana are off to 2-0 starts in league play.

Sultana hosts Oak Hills on Tuesday afternoon.

Apple Valley, which lost the MRL opener to Sultana 9-5 on March 16, hosts Serrano on Tuesday. The Sun Devils (10-5) are off to a 0-2 start in MRL action.

Barstow 17, Granite Hills 1

At Barstow, Andre Youngblood struck out 10 batters over seven innings to lead the Aztecs past the Cougars on Wednesday afternoon.

Youngblood allowed one run on two hits and didn't allow a walk.

Offensively, Jacob Vega went 3 for 3 with three RBI and three runs and a stolen base; Malachi Maestas went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs; and Dominic Acosta went 1 for 2 with two RBI and two runs.

The teams are back in action Friday afternoon at Granite Hills.

Silverado 10, Victor Valley 4

At Victorville, Uriel Martin was perfect at the plate on Wednesday afternoon as the Hawks topped the Jackrabbits in Desert Sky League action.

Martin went 5 for 5 with three RBI and two runs to lead the way for Silverado.

Two other teammates also collected three hits.

Issac Ramirez went 3 for 5, while Drew Weiss went 3 for 4 with two RBI, two runs and a stolen base.

Cole Murphy went 2 for 5 with three RBI and a run, and on the mound, Adam Medina allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out four batters.

For Victor Valley, Alex Mendoza went 1 for 3 with two runs and two stolen bases; and Carlos Mendoza went 1 for 2 with a RBI.

The teams are back in action Friday afternoon at Silverado.

At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in Mojave River League action with a victory over the Scorpions on Thursday afternoon.

Tyler Martinez led the way for Oak Hills by going 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run; Geroge Malone went 2 for 3 with a RBI, run and stolen base; and Jacob Webster went 2 for 5 with a run and two stolen bases.

For Hesperia, Dru Lona went 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run, while Andrew Gutierrez went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run.

Hesperia (3-12, 0-6 MRL) is back home against Serrano on Tuesday, while Oak Hills (8-3 4-0 MRL) heads to Maranatha on Saturday afternoon.

At Hesperia, Caillou Estrada drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Sultans past the Sun Devils on Thursday afternoon.

Estrada singled to left field, scoring Alex Gamez to break a 7-7 tie. Estrada ended 3 for 4 with a RBI and two runs.

RJ Torres went 1 for 3 with three RBI, and LJ Borrego went 2 for 3 with a run.

For Apple Valley, Noah Celie went 2 for 4 with a RBI; Ryan Martinez, Jesiah Zamora, Luis Lechuga and Isaiah Reveron each collected a hit with a RBI and a run.

Apple Valley (10-4-1, 3-3 Mojave River League) heads to Oak Hills on Tuesday, while Sultana (8-7, 3-3 MRL) hosts Burroughs.

At Oro Grande, Eric Logsdon continued his tear at the plate leading the way for the Silver Knights past the Jaguars on Thursday afternoon.

Logsdon went 3 for 3 with a RBI, four runs and two stolen bases.

Andrew Logsdon went 2 for 2 with a RBI and two runs; Isaiah Gomez went 2 for 3 with a RBI, two runs and a stolen base; and Cayden Johnson went 2 for 3 with three RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.

Arlan Koester led the offensive onslaught by going 3 for 4 with six RBI and a run; Caleb Audet went 3 for 5 with two RBI and two runs; Logan Day went 2 for 3 with three RBI and three runs; Cody New went 2 for 4 with two runs; and Jared Bragg and Ayden Ortega each went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs.

For Riverside Prep, Belle Lopez went 1 for 2 with two RBI, and America Barajas-Sanchez went 2 for 3.

The Silver Knights (3-5, 0-2 CVL) head to Big Bear on Tuesday, while the Jaguars (13-4) are at AAE.
