Osky girls take third at Moravia

MORAVIA — Facing tough conditions on a tough golf course, Oskaloosa would bring home third place in the nine-time Moravia Invite on Friday at The Preserve with a team score of 439.

Leading the way for the girls was sophomore Libby Fenton, who would shoot a 98 to not only break 100 for the first time in her career, but also get into a playoff for first place in the tournament.

Fenton would face Albia senior Emma Bradley, who led the Lady Dees to the team title by seven strokes over Centerville and 17 shots over Oskaloosa. Fenton would come through for the Indians by winning the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors.

Amelia Meador finished with a solid round of 101 to finish third on the day while Avree Ebelsheiser (113) and Amelia Bowen (127) rounded out the scoring for Osky.

The Oskaloosa girls are back in action on Monday at Ottumwa.

Boys golf

Indians runner-up at Grinnell

GRINNELL — The Oskaloosa boys golf team made their way to Grinnell for a four-team meet on Friday. The Indians would battle tough conditions to finish second with a score of 338.

All six Oskaloosa golfers finished in the top 11 out of 24 golfers competing on the day. Johnathon Terpstra led with a third place finish and a round of 82 while Meer Patel (85), Carter Blanco (85) and Linus Morrison (86) all followed closely behind.

"Lots of putts today on some quick greens," Oskaloosa head coach Bret Foster said. "Individually there were some good things to see. Linus Morrison had a very solid back nine, Johnathon had a great back nine going and kind of ran out of steam at the end. Osky guys were all on the top half of the leaderboard too which is great to see. The guys battled all day in really tough conditions. Pretty proud of them and it will get better as we get to the final stretch."

Oskaloosa returns home for their home invite on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Pella take third at West Delaware Invite

MANCHESTER — The Dutch made a long journey east on Friday to face some of the top teams in eastern Iowa at the West Delaware Invite at Pin Oak Pub & Links.

Pella would do well to take third with a score of 333 while Solon took the title at 323 with West Delaware finishing right behind with a 326.

AJ Hoekstra paced the Dutch with his season-best round of 74 to take second overall on the day. Cade McGinley was seventh with his round of 80 while Cole Floden (88) and Thomas Tangen (91) made up the rest of the Pella scorers.

Pella travels to Oskaloosa on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Lady Dutch bring home title at Knoxville Invite

KNOXVILLE — The sixth-ranked Lady Dutch got a taste of tournament play on Friday at the Knoxville Invite.

Despite being without their No. 1 in Emily Blom and No. 6 in Bryn Higginbotham, Pella was able to bring home the team title with 22 points while Ballard finished second with 19 points.

In the singles bracket, Claire Smock would earn the three-seed and would roll to the semifinals before earning a tough 8-4 victory over No. 2-seed Janie Maasdam of Knoxville. Smock would then fall to the top seed of Kaitlyn Zugay of Ballard 6-3 (shortened due to darkness) in the finals to take second place.

Also competing in singles play was Mallory Westerkamp, who was unseeded but would pick up wins over No. 4-seed Kate Schneider of Knoxville 8-0 before coming back from a 3-0 deficit in her next match to take it 8-3. Westerkamp lost to the eventual champ of Zugay 8-2 in the semifinals before bouncing back to win third place with a 6-4 victory (shortened due to darkness).

In doubles play, Alloree Else and Lily VanDusseldorp teamed up to earn the two-seed and a first round bye. They would pick up 8-6 and 8-3 wins on their way to the finals before they would fall to the top seed of McCoy/Hagen of Clarke in a back and forth match that ended in an 8-6 defeat to take second.

Sydney Namminga and Kytilin Plate made up the other Pella doubles team as they opened with an 8-1 win before running into McCoy/Hagen in round two and falling 8-1. They would head to the consolation bracket and pick up wins of 8-3 and 6-2 before falling in the 10-point super-tiebreaker fifth place match 10-6 to finish sixth.

No. 6 Pella (7-0) heads to Newton (2-5) on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
