Area Roundup: Four-run fourth inning leads Victor Valley past Barstow

The Victor Valley baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to beat Barstow 6-3, tightening up the Desert Sky League standings.

David Gutierrez had a solid outing for the Jackrabbits, striking out eight batters and allowed two earned runs on seven hits and two walks.

Gutierrez gave up a run in the first inning, but settled down the rest of the way. Barstow jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a single from Malachi Maestas that scored Julian Duran.

Victor Valley got that run back in the bottom of the inning with a single from Jadon Mollinedo.

Victor Valley took a 2-1 lead on an error in the bottom of the second inning, allowing Ben Seidenkranz to score.

Barstow tied it up in the top of the fourth inning on a single from Jacob Vega, which scored Diego Lopez.

The Jackrabbits then struck for four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Davian Dominguez got things started with a two-run double, which scored Jorge Avila and Seidenkranz. Shortly after, Mollinedo singled to score Dominguez and Alex Mendoza for a 6-2 lead.

Mollinedo ended 2 for 3 with three RBI; Seidenkranz went 2 for 3 with two runs and a stolen base; and Patrick Singer went 2 for 4.

For Barstow, Maestas, Vegas and Giovanni Grenier each went 1 for 2 with a RBI, while Gabriel Hernandez, Julian Duran and Diego Lopez each scored a run.

Anthony Youngblood was tagged for five earned runs on 10 hits over 3 ⅔ innings.

Grenier tossed 2 ⅓ innings and struck out three batters.

With the loss, Barstow drops to second place in the DSL standings with a 6-3 record as Adelanto beat Granite Hills, taking a half-game lead in the standings.

Victor Valley is right behind with a 4-2 record in DSL action.

Barstow hosts Victor Valley on Friday to wrap up the season series between the teams.

Granite Hills 11, Adelanto 6

At Adelanto, Mia Vazquez, Krystal Garza and Rebekah Godwin each tallied three hits on Wednesday to lead the Cougars past the Saints.

Vazquez led the offense, going 3 for 5 with a home run, three RBI and a run; Garza went 3 for 5 with a run; and Rebekah Godwin ended 3 for 4 with a RBI, three runs and a stolen base

For Adelanto, Julianna Malone went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run; Anna Gomez went 2 for 4 with a run; and Char King went 2 for 3 with a RBI.

The teams are back in action Friday afternoon at Granite Hills.

At Barstow, Chloe Bledsoe drove in nine runs Wednesday afternoon as the Aztecs improved to 8-1 in DSL action.

Bledsoe ended the day 3 for 4 with a grand slam, nine RBI and two runs.

Marley Zamora went 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and a run, and Alina Davis went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run

For Victor Valley, Tiffany Vakkur went 2 for 3 with a RBI; Valarie Garcia went 1 for 2 with two RBI; and Andrea Garcia went 1 for 1 with two runs.

The teams are back in action Friday afternoon at Victor Valley.

At Victorville, Fred Hunter and Joshua Washington swept in doubles action to help lead the Hawks past the Cougars on Wednesday.

For Granite Hills, Eric Poindexter swept in singles action.

Silverado (12-0, 11-0 DSL) is back in action Tuesday at home for a doubleheader.

Oak Hills sweeps Burroughs

Thaddeus Jones was one of three Bulldogs to set a personal record, and he also won four events on Wednesday afternoon.

Jones set personal records in both the 100 and 200 meter races, and also ran legs on both relay teams, helping the boys squad to a 80.3-55.6 victory.

Christopher Nora, currently ranked 15th in the state in the discus, set a personal record with a throw of 170-2. He also took first in the shot put.

In girls action, the Bulldogs won 89-47 as Kayla Pugliese set a personal record in the 200 meter race with a time of 25.96 seconds. She also won the 100 meter dash and also ran legs on both winning relay teams.
