Area Roundup: Oak Hills claims consolation bracket title at Quartz Hill tournament

The Oak Hills softball team picked up two victories Saturday to claim the championship in the consolation bracket at the Quartz Hill tournament.

In the championship game, Carly Baze struck out 10 batters as the Bulldogs topped Village Christian 8-2. Daylin Hoenisch went 3 for 3 with a two-run double. Holly Medina hit a three-run double and Maddie Romo hit a two-run double.

Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs beat Lancaster 4-1 as Nyomi Estrada struck out seven batters. She also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Romo hit a double and drove in a run, and Malyna Retemal went 2 for 2.

On Friday, they lost to Granada Hills 4-0, and then beat Apple Valley 9-4.

Against Apple Valley, Baze picked up the save and struck out seven batters. At the plate she hit a two-run double.

Medina went 2 for 3 with two RBI; Estrada went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI; and Romo, Hoenisch and Retemal each went 2 for 3.

The Bulldogs (6-6) are back in action Wednesday at home against Adelanto.

PREP BASEBALL

Hesperia Christian 8, Boron 0

At Hesperia, Kyle Day struck out 15 batters as he led the Patriots at home on March 4.

Day allowed just one hit over seven scoreless innings. Arlan Koester helped lead the offense by going 3 for 4 with an RBI; Nate Wilberding went 1 for 1 with an RBI; and Luke Beasley went 1 for 3 with two RBI.

Victor Valley 11, Apple Valley 6

At Victorville, Jorge Avila led the Jackrabbits past the Sun Devils on Saturday by going 3 for 4 with four RBI.

Aaron Ramirez went 3-4 and Gabriel Munoz was 2-4 with three RBI.

Kesean Bazile picked up the victory on the mound with a scoreless inning.

At Llano, Bennett Castillo shot a 43 to lead the Diamondbacks at Crystalaire Country Club on Monday afternoon.
