Area Roundup: Oak Hills' Miller highlights list of 5 locals named to All-CIF-SS teams

Five local basketball players received nods to the All-CIF-Southern Section First Teams in their respective divisions.

Oak Hills’ Michael Miller, the Mojave River League’s Player of the Year, was one of nine players named to the All-CIF-SS Division 3AA team. Rancho Cucamonga's Shadale Knight took the Player of the Year award.

Miller’s Bulldogs lost to Rancho Cucamonga in the semifinals of the Div. 3AA playoffs.

Miller averaged 24.3 points per game in his senior season.

After leading Riverside Prep to the program’s first-ever title game appearance, James Robinson and Jared Taylor received a nod to the Div. 5A team.

The duo helped the Silver Knights to the Cross Valley League title, and then to four postseason victories en route to the title game against Fontana.

On the girls side, Oak Hills’ Moriah Burley earned a spot on the Div. 3AA team, and Jewell Rencher on the Div. 4AA team.

Rencher and the Jackrabbits made a run to the Div. 4AA semifinals.

PREP BASEBALL

Hesperia Christian 17, California Lutheran 0

At Wildomar, Arlan Koester struck out 13 batters in a complete-game victory on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Koester allowed just three hits in the mercy-rule victory. At the plate, he went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs.

Caleb Audet went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs; Luke Skinner went 3 for 4 with four RBI and three runs; and Logan Day went 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs.

On Monday, the Patriots topped Rosamond 10-5, as Cody New struck out 10 batters over five innings.

At the plate, Kyle Day went 3 for 4, Koester went 3 for 5 with three RBI, Audet went 3 for 4 and Luke Beasley went 2 for 4 with a home run.

Hesperia Christian (6-2) is back home Thursday against Rosamond.

Adelanto 7, Barstow 2

At Adelanto, the Saints scored six runs in the first inning and improved to 9-4 on the season with a victory over the Aztecs on Tuesday.

Raymond Gonzales tossed a complete game, and struck out eight batters and allowed four hits.

Kyle Adcock helped lead the offense for Adelanto by going 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBI; Darren Atkinson went 2 for 4 with two RBI; and Christian Moreno went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

At Victorville, Luke Hallet led all shooters with a 76 over 18 holes at Spring Valley Lake Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Brady McColm followed right behind with an 83.

Granite Hills 11, Adelanto 7

The Cougars improved to 3-0 in Desert Sky League action with a victory over the Saints on Tuesday afternoon.

Eric Poindexter swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, as did the doubles team of Christopher Grantham and Jace Esplin (6-2, 6-2, 6-1).

The Hawks topped the Knights via tiebreaker and picked up their first victory of the season.

Silverado got sweeps in singles action from Richard Dodd, with three bagels, and Joshua Washington (6-1, 6-4, 6-3).

Silverado (1-4, 1-1 Desert Sky League) travels to Adelanto on Thursday.

Hesperia and Oak Hills split Tuesday afternoon’s dual to begin Mojave River League action.

The Scorpion boys won 84-52 as Damian Durran won both hurdle races, and Jaquan Morris won the high and triple jumps.

For Oak Hills, Javon Comas won the 100 and 200 dashes, and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay race.

In girls action, Oak Hills won 90-46. Olivia Moore won both dash races, the triple jump and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay race. Kloe Hice won both throw events.

For Hesperia, Danea Clemons won both dash races and the long jump.
