Area Roundup: Six-run fifth inning leads Oak Hills past Silverado

The Oak Hills softball team rallied from a late three-run deficit to beat Silverado 9-5 on Thursday afternoon.

The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring two runs in the third inning and one in the fifth.

But a six-run bottom of the fifth inning led the way for Oak Hills.

Nyomi Estrada put the Bulldogs on the board with a one-out run-scoring single, scoring Marley Fic from second base.

Oak Hills loaded the bases and Rylie Gresham-Center made it a one-run game with a single. Maddie Romo put Oak Hills ahead with a two-run double and Hailey Corona also hit a two-run double for a 6-3 lead.

Silverado cut the lead to a run in the top of the sixth inning after Haylee Stanislawski cranked a two-run home run.

Oak Hills added three more runs in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly from Malyna Retemal, a double from Holly Medina and a single from Hoenisch.

Medina ended the day with going 3 for 4 with one RBI and two runs.

Oak Hills (7-2) is back in action Saturday with a doubleheader at Village Christian, while Silverado (4-1, 2-0 Desert Sky League) heads to CIMS on Monday afternoon.

Apple Valley 11, Sultana 1

At Hesperia, Jesiah Zamora cranked a two-run home run in the first inning and drove in five runs to lead the Sun Devils past the Sultans on Thursday afternoon.

Zamora ended the day 2 for 4 with five RBI and a run.

Ryan Martinez went 2 for 4 with three RBI and a run; John Lloyd went 1 for 2 with two walks, a RBI and three runs; and Ethan Cheek went 3 for 4 with two runs.

For Sultana, Caillou Estrada went 1 for 3 with a walk and RBI, and A Gamez went 1 for 2 with two walks and a run.

Sultana (5-5, 0-1 Mojave River League) is back in action Tuesday at Burroughs, while Apple Valley (7-1-1, 1-0 MRL) hosts Oak Hills.

At Helendale, Kyle Day tossed a no-hitter over five innings to lead the Patriots to their first victory of the season on Thursday afternoon.

Day struck out nine batters and walked two while picking up the victory on the mound.

Arlan Koester led the offense by going 4 for 4 with five RBI and a run, and Luke Skinner went 4 for 4 with three RBI and three runs.

The Patriots (1-1) are back in action Monday at home against Knight.

Oak Hills 6, Hesperia 3

At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs kicked off Mojave River League action with a victory over the Scorpions on Thursday afternoon.

Austin Allan picked up the win on the mound for Oak Hills, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts over five innings. Jacob Webster notched the save after striking out five batters over two innings.

At the plate, George Malone went 1 for 2 with two RBI; Tyler Martinez went 2 for 2 with a walk, RBI and two runs; Paul Montoya went 2 for 2 with a run; and Keith Williams and Angelo Rizzo both went 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run.

For Hesperia, Andrew Gutierrez went 2 for 3 with three RBI, and Dru Lona went 2 for 3 with a run.

The Bulldogs (5-3, 1-0 MRL) are back in action Friday against Colony, while the Scorpions (3-7, 0-1 MRL) host Serrano on Tuesday.

At Lake Elsinore, the Silver Knights picked up their sixth victory of the season on Thursday afternoon.

Andrew Logsdon led the offense by going 3 for 3 with a run, and Isaiah Gomez went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run.

Gomez also struck out two batters over three innings of work on the mound, while Cayman Pluma struck out three over four innings.

Riverside Prep (6-3-2) is back in action Saturday against Fontana.

Barstow 1, Adelanto 0

At Barstow, the Aztecs pulled off a wacky victory in nine innings against the Saints on Wednesday.

Evan Hernandez struck out for what would have been the second inning in the bottom of the ninth inning. But he reached base on a dropped third strike, and then advanced to second base on an error.

A couple pitches later, an error at third base allowed Hernandez to come around and score the winning run.

Anthony Youngblood struck out five batters and allowed just three hits over eight innings, and Giovanni Grenier pitched one inning in relief.

For Adelanto, Chris Espinoza struck out eight batters and allowed 4 hits over 7 ⅓ innings of work. Jacob Chivichon struck out three batters in an inning of work.

16 struck out three batters in the one inning and allowed an unearned run.

Adelanto (4-4, 0-1 Desert Sky League) is back in action Friday at home against Granite Hills, while Barstow (4-1, 2-0 DSL) hosts Victor Valley.

At Helendale, the Eagles continued their hot streak and beat the Diamondbacks by 89 strokes on Thursday afternoon.

Nate Carlson led the way with a 37, while Jacob Hutchinson followed right behind at 39.
