These area schools have delayed, canceled classes ahead of severe winter weather

Some South Texas schools are delaying or canceling classes Friday as a strong cold front brings freezing temperatures, ice and sleet to the region.

Del Mar College

Thursday evening classes will be held as scheduled, online and face-to-face. If students are unable to safely attend due to weather conditions, they should stay home and contact their instructors directly.

Online classes will be held as scheduled Friday. Face-to-face classes are cancelled, with the exception of some classes on the Windward Campus. Students impacted will be notified by their professors.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will shift to remote work and online instruction on Friday until 1 p.m., the college said in an alert.

Faculty and staff should contact their supervisors with any questions, and students should contact their professors.

Testing for COVID-19 via the on-campus Curative kiosk will also resume at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Other events scheduled at or after 1 p.m. Friday and this weekend, including Saturday’s home basketball games at the American Bank Center, will continue as scheduled.

Agua Dulce ISD

Agua Dulce announced all schools will be closed Thursday and Friday, in a Facebook post.

All extracurricular activities are canceled until Monday.

Alice ISD

Alice ISD announced schools will be closed Friday.

In a Facebook post, the district said students will make up the missed day on Friday, May 27.

The district said conditions should improve by the afternoon, but will monitor weather and roads for any changes for evening activities.

Aransas County ISD

Aransas County ISD will cancel classes Friday, according to a release.

School will resume Monday.

Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco ISD

All schools in Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco will be closed Thursday and Friday, according to the district's website.

Classes will resume Monday.

Benavides ISD

Benavides ISD announced schools will be released early at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, in a Facebook post.

Classes are canceled for Friday.

Brooks County ISD

In a Facebook post, Brooks County ISD announced all campuses will be released early Thursday.

Lasater Elementary will be released at 1:15 p.m., Falfurrias Elementary at 1:20 p.m., Falfurrias Junior High at 1:25 p.m. and Falfurrias High School at 1:30 p.m.

Classes are canceled for Friday.

Calallen ISD

All Calallen ISD schools and facilities, including Latchkey, will be closed Friday.

In a post, the district said any additional updates will be shared via social media, its website, email and text messaging.

Corpus Christi ISD

CCISD will remain on regular schedule on Thursday, but will operate on a two-hour weather delay for students, staff and morning bus routes on Friday, the district said in a post.

The elementary school will begin classes at 9:50 a.m. Middle and high schools will begin at 10:50 a.m. Friday's dismissal and end of workday times will remain on regular schedule.

Extracurricular actives will continue as scheduled on Thursday and Friday unless changed by the sponsor, coach or office of athletics. Any updates will be announced through the school messenger, district social media and local media.

Diocese of Corpus Christi

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Corpus Christi will proceed with a two-hour delay Friday.

Flour Bluff ISD

Flour Bluff ISD schools and facilities will be closed Friday, the district announced in a Facebook post.

All extracurricular activities, including athletics, will be canceled Friday morning. Extracurricular activities scheduled for the afternoon may continue unless otherwise communicated by coaches or teachers/sponsors.

Classes will resume Monday.

Gregory-Portland ISD

All Gregory-Portland ISD schools and facilities will be closed on Friday. School will continue as planned all day Thursday, including scheduled evening activities.

All extracurricular activities, including athletics, will be canceled for the morning of Friday. With temperatures expected to increase through the day, extracurricular activities scheduled for the afternoon may continue unless otherwise communicated by coaches or teachers/advisers.

Gregory-Portland ISD employees should not report to work on Friday unless directed by your supervisor.

Normal operations are scheduled for Thursday and Monday.

Ingleside ISD

Ingleside ISD will be closed Friday and classes will resume Monday, the district said in a news release.

Kingsville ISD

All schools and offices will be closed Friday in Kingsville ISD.

In a Facebook post, the district announced staff will be on call remotel.

London ISD

London ISD will have a two-hour delay to the start of school for students, staff and morning bus routes on Friday, the district announced in a Facebook post.

London Elementary and London Intermediate will start at 9:45 a.m. The middle school and high school campuses will start at 10:40 a.m.

Odem-Edroy ISD

All schools and offices in Odem-Edroy ISD will be closed Friday.

In a Facebook post, the district said classes will resume Monday.

Orange Grove ISD

Orange Grove ISD announced in a Facebook post that school will start at 10 a.m. Friday for students.

Teachers and staff are to report at 9 a.m.

Premont ISD

Premont ISD announced it would cancel all classes on Friday. The day will not need to be made up, the district said in a Facebook post.

Riviera ISD

In a Facebook post, Riviera ISD announced all schools will be closed Friday.

Any updates will be sent to the district's app.

Robstown ISD

Robstown ISD will be closed on Friday. Classes will resume on Monday, the district said in a Facebook post.

Sinton ISD

All Sinton ISD schools and facilities will be closed Friday, both because of the winter weather and because of a rise in COVID-19 cases that has affected student attendance, the district said in a Facebook post.

Taft ISD

All Taft ISD schools and facilities will be closed on Friday.

While all Friday morning extracurricular activities are canceled, extracurricular coaches and sponsors will communicate the status of afternoon and/or evening activities through social media, the district website and the Remind app, according to a news release.

Tuloso-Midway ISD

All Tuloso-Midway ISD schools and facilities will be closed Friday, the district announced in a Facebook post.

Classes will resume Monday.

West Oso ISD

All West Oso ISD campuses and offices will be closed Friday and will reopen Monday at regular hours.

All campus, district and office staff will participate in professional development remotely, the district said in a news release.
