Area seniors celebrate college signings, others earn offers

Seniors in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties continue to make their college decisions official, while other standout performers are receiving offers from interested programs. Here’s the latest from around the area.

Signings

Crest girls soccer standout Madison Setzer signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Wingate University in December. McKenzie Gates of Community Christian Academy in Bessemer City recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Gaston College and play softball. She was joined for the occasion by Community Christian Academy coach Mallory Wright, assistant travel softball coach Keith Gates, World Series coach Sandy Cunningham, as well as (back row) Gaston College softball coach Michael Stuerwald.

Gates graduated early and will participate in Gaston College’s softball season in the spring.

Recruiting

  • Livingstone College extended an offer to Gaston Day senior standout Chris Britt.

  • Also receiving an offer from Livingstone College was Bessemer City junior Randall Pettus, who recently surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his high school basketball career. Fort Valley State University also extended an offer to the Yellow Jackets’ scoring machine.

  • Limestone University is the latest to target Stuart Cramer football standout Arias Nash, offering the Storm defensive standout. Nash earned Big South 3A Defensive Player of the Year honors after 144 tackles, six sacks, five forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

  • Western Carolina also targeted two area seniors on the gridiron. East Gaston single-season rushing king Justin Hill was recently offered by the Catamounts, along with Forestview all-purpose man Camury Reid. Hill also received an offer from Emery & Henry College in Virginia.
