Area swimmers, divers and runners earn state championship spots

The area's top cross country runners, swimmers and divers from around the Treasure Coast battled it out among the best in their region and several boys and girls earned tickets to state championships.

Several runners hit personal best times in their respective races led by Lincoln Park Academy sophomore Jacey Lane, who ran 18:54.8 to take fourth at the Region 4-2A Championship on Thursday shaving off over 17 seconds from her time at the district meet.

In total, four boys teams and five girls teams will head to the state championship meets in Tallahassee on Nov. 5: Vero Beach (4A), Sebastian River, South Fork (3A) and Jensen Beach (2A) for the boys and Vero Beach (4A), South Fork (3A), St. Edward’s, John Carroll Catholic and Pine School (1A) for the girls.

Benjamin's Keira Hodum and St. Edward's Carrington Brown compete at the Region 4-1A Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Indian River County Fairgrounds in Vero Beach. Hodum took fifth in the race and Brown finished eighth.

Sebastian River's Mary Twomey earned runner-up finishes in both the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke to advance to the state meet.

All qualifiers for the 3A and 4A state swim meets will be determined Sunday with the 3A championship taking place Nov. 4 and the 4A championship the following day.
