Area athletes compete in indoor meets at Aberdeen, Brookings & Vermillion

BROOKINGS — Aberdeen Central's track and field teams kicked off their seasons by competing in the Ruth Marske Indoor Invitational on Monday in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

The Golden Eagles scored 38 points and finished seventh out of 20 teams in the boys division and also scored 54 points to place fourth out of 19 teams in the girls division.

Ciara Frank won the high jump (5-4) and Breckan Santjer the pole vault (9-6) to lead Aberdeen Central's girls. Aiden Heimann, Gabe Johnson, Carter Dingman and Drew Salfrank combined to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:30.32) for Aberdeen Central's boys.

Other top-8 finishes for the Golden Eagle girls included Madison Hochstetter (second in 100 hurdles), Juna Ramey (second in 3,200 run), Frank (third in long jump), Regan Lust (tied for fourth in high jump), Taryn Hermansen (sixth in shot put), Jaidyn Forsyth (tied for sixth in pole vault), Lucy Fritz (eighth pole vault) and Mya Arampatzis (eighth in 300 hurdles).

Heimann also placed second in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 110 hurdles for Aberdeen Central's boys. Other top-8 finishers included Ethan Fergel (eighth in pole vault), Tyler Bain (sixth in high jump), Drew Salfrank (fourth in 400 dash), Carter Dingman (fifth in 400 dash) and Christian Wells (eighth in 3,200 run). Wells joined Sam Schultz, David VanVeen and Joe Perkins on the eighth-place 3,200 relay.

Dewey Donat Classic

Daniel Stoll of Faulkton Area recorded a trio of first-place finishes Monday during the Dewey Donat Classic indoor track and field meet in the Barnett Center.

Stoll won the boys' 55- and 200-meter dashes and joined Garrett Cramer, Roman DiMaria and Spencer Melius on the winning 1,600 relay (3:47.47).

Other area event winners the boys division included Turner Thorson (400 dash), Maxwell Kulesa (800 run) and Carter Geditz (55 hurdles) of Ipswich; Jon Nefzger of Estelline-Hendricks (shot put), Drew Reetz of Webster Area (pole vault) and Abe Kretchman of Aberdeen Christian (long jump).

Shawnteah La Croix (55 dash) and Rachel Beaner (800 run) of Aberdeen Christian each won events in the girls division and also ran on the winning 1,600 relay (4:47.18) along with teammates Ali Isakson and Lauren Meyers.

Other area event winners were Kali Norton of Ellendale, N.D. (200 dash), Madisyn Gellhaus of Ipswich (1,600 run), Danielle Hawley (shot put) and Sadie Johnson (pole vault) of Estelline-Hendricks and Gracie Lange of Ipswich (long jump).

Dan Lennox Class A Invite

VERMILLION — Milbank's pole vaulters turned in a strong showing Monday in the Dan Lennox Class A Indoor Invitational track and field meet in the DakotaDome.

Jayden Johnson cleared 13 feet to finish second in the boys division.

Jacy Dexter (9-0) took third, Katie Kruger sixth (8-6) and Maggie Kruger eighth (8-0) for Milbank in the girls division.
