Area track and field athletes compete in meets at Estelline, Sioux Falls, Clark and Miller

ESTELLINE — A field of 20 teams competed in the Pat Gilligan Alumni Track and Field meet on Tuesday.

Arlington, Castlewood, Dakota Hills, De Smet, Deubrook Area, Deuel, Estelline-Hendricks, Hamlin, Hitchcock-Tulare, Ipswich, Iroquois-Lake Preston, Langford Area, Milbank, Redfield, Sioux Valley and Waverly-South Shore were among the teams on hand.

Athletes who won multiple individual events include Ricky Berndt of Deuel (boys' 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs), Ellie Olsen of Deubrook Area (girls' 400 dash and 800 run), Estelline-Hendricks' Jon Nefzger (boys' shot put, discus and javelin) and Hamlin's Gracelyn Leiseth (girls' shot put and discus).

Berndt won the 1,600 in 4:25.79, breaking a Deuel school record that was set by Wayne Triebwasser in 1961 (4:25.8).

Other area boys division winners were Olivier Fieber of Deuel (100 dash), Zach VanMeeteren of Hamlin (200 dash), J.P. Rogness of Deubrook Area (400 dash), Payton Brown of MIlbank (800 run), Donovan Rose of Sioux Valley (110 hurdles), Carson Kirwan of Castlewood (high jump) and Trevor Heinz of Ipswich (long jump).

In the girls division, area event winners included Landree Wilson of Sioux Valley (100 dash), Chloe Raw of Arlington (200 dash), Kaelyn Ulschmid of Arlington (3,200 run), Sadie Johnson of Estelline-Hendricks (300 hurdles), Kami Wadsworth of Hamlin (javelin) and Camryn Rohlfs of Redfield (long jump).

VanMeeteren and teammates Gavin Prouty, Luke Fraser and Rylan Thue combined to win the boys' 400 and 800 relays for Hamlin. Milbank won the 1,600 (Brown, Bryan Meyer, Max Lightfield and Garrett Mertens) and 3,200 (James Batchelor, Meyer, Beckham Berry and Brown) relays and Berndt and Fieber ran on Deuel's winning medley along with Owen Quail and Braydon Simon.

Deubrook Area won the 800 (Brooke Koppatschek, Miranda Moravetz, Kadence Bowne and Kylee Johnson) and 1,600 (Koppatschek, Moravetz, Johnson and Olsen) relays in the girls division.

Milbank won the 400 (Laney Forrette, Isabella Anderson, Jacy Dexter and Sierra Wenzl), Sioux Valley the medley (Adison Renkly, Ashley Bjerke, Talya Vincent and Isabelle Bloker) and Arlington the 3,200 (Addie and Isabelle Steffensen, Halley Muller and Ulschmid) relays.

Sioux Falls Jefferson Quadrangular

SIOUX FALLS — Watertown athletes won 19 events in a high school quadrangular on Tuesday at Howard Wood Field.

Sioux Falls Lincoln and Jefferson and Brandon Valley also competed.

Jeremiah Schulte (400 dash), Jaxson Fiechtner (800 run), Juven Hudson (long jump), Boaz Raderschadt (shot put) and Tommy Foley (pole vault) each won individual events for the Arrow boys.

Watertown also won the 400 (Markus Pitkin, Foley, Owen Spartz and Hudson), 800 (Jerome Zebroski, Schulte, ALan Moen and Pitkin) and 3,200 (Ben Peterson, Briley Martin, Gabe List and Tucker Lunde) relays.

Anna Hirtz won the 100 and 200 dashes to lead the Arrow girls, who also got event wins from Briella Van Dusseldorp (100 hurdles), Kate McElroy (3,200 run), Makenna Blank (long jump), Hayden Thomas (triple jump), Malia Kranz (shot put) and Maddy Rohde (javelin).

The Arrows won the 800 (Blank, Emery Thury, Van Dusseldorp and Hirtz), medley (McKenzie Lewis, Emma and Molly Hendricks and Ellery Stark) and 3,200 (Emma List, McElroy,, Andi Olson and Victoria Smith) relays.

Watertown is scheduled to compete Thursday in the Al Sahli Invitational. The meet is normally held in Aberdeen but has been moved to Pierre.

Clark-Willow Lake Cyclone Invite

CLARK — Area schools Florence-Henry, Great Plains Lutheran, Tri-State, Webster Area and Oakes (N.D.) joined host Clark-Willow Lake in the Cyclone Invite on Tuesday.

Emma Muggli of Oakes won the 100 and 300 hurdles and the triple jump in the girls division. GPL's Sophie Kannas took the 100 and 200 dashes.

Other area event winners in the girls division included Taylor Watson (400 dash) and Trinity Watson (800 run) of Florence-Henry, Kamryn Nesheim of Clark-Willow Lake (1,600 run), Halle Bauer of GPL (3,200 run), Laikyn Roney of Oakes (shot put), Samantha Meehl of Oakes (discus), Elliott Steiner of Webster Ara (high jump) and Johanna Vandersnick of Clark-Willow Lake (long jump).

Clark-Willow Lake won the 400 (Kaylyn Hofer, Vandersnick, Samantha Brenden and Kelsey Hofer), medley (Vandersnick, Musonda Kabwe, Kelsey Hofer and Cadence Bochek) and 3,200 (Kayla Jordan, C. Bochek, Emma Bochek and Nesheim) relays). The Watsons joined Haley Hlavacek and Caylin Kelly on Florence-Henry's winning 1,600 relay.

Owen Speiker of Clark-Willow Lake swept the hurdle races and RJ Perry of GPL won the shot put and discus in the boys division. Other area winners were Gavin Witt (100 dash) and Martin Dorsett (200 dash) of Webster Area, Joey Heim of Oakes (400 dash), Kadin Raguse of Tri-State (800 run), Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State (1,600 run), Cooper Pommer of Clark-Willow Lake (3,200 run), Adam Moe (high jump) and Mehki Keller (long jump) of Florence-Henry and Jacob Keller of Webster Area (triple jump).

Webster Area won the 800 (Dorsett, Witt, Carson Mount and Drew Reetz) and 1,600 (Mount, Witt, Trey Dunse and Reetz) relays.

Florence-Henry won the 400 (Trevor Rawlins, Jaden Thomas, Peyton Roe and Keller), Tri-State the medley (Casey Litton, Owen Wood, Grayson Madsen and Foltz) and Oakes the 3,200 (Heim, Roddek Schmit, Zane Awender and Andrew Wolff.

Miller Booster Club Meet

MILLER —Logan Permann and Hunter Cramer of Warner, Shawnteah La Croix of Aberdeen Christian and Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern each won two individual events in the Miller Booster Club Meet on Tuesday.

Area schools Aberdeen Christian and Roncalli, Britton-Hecla, Ellendale (N.D.), Frederick Area, Groton Area, Northwestern, Sunshine Bible Academy and Warner competed.

Permann won the 100 and 200 dashes and Cramer swept the hurdles in the boys division. La Croix took the girls' 100 and 200 dashes and Boekleheide the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

Logan Ringgenberg of Groton Area (shot put), Abe Kretchman (long jump) and Jayden Munroe of Aberdeen Roncalli (triple jump) also won individual events in the boys division.

Abby Hinman of SBA (400 dash) and Ella Haven of Northwestern (triple jump) won girls division events.

Warner won the 400 relay (Zach Wood, Permann, Cramer and Payton Volk) and Groton Area the 800 (Keegan Tracy, Ryder Johnson, Andrew Marzahn and Teylor Diegel) in the boys division.'

Hinman and Betra Amare, Tessa Hinman and Dakota Boersma won the 1,600 relay in the girls division for SBA. Groton Area won the medley with runner Jericka Locke, Laila Roberts, Kella Tracy and Taryn Traphagen.
