Area track & field teams dominate Badlands event

Apr. 30—DICKINSON — It's getting down to the wire and area teams are starting to dominate, with the Bowman County High School girls track and field team winning the Badlands Conference Meet on Friday, April 28, 2023 with 116 points and Dickinson Trinity taking home the boys title with 105.

Other area teams also performed well on the girls side, with Dickinson Trinity's team coming in second with 76 and Killdeer earning 63.5 and fourth-place, while Hettinger County finished close behind in fifth with 61. On the boys side, Killdeer were second with 85 points and Hettinger County ended up sixth with 63.5.

Among the race results in the sprint events, Helena Pavek finished with a blue ribbon in the 100m dash with a 12.77 for Dickinson Trinity and Bowman County's Quin Andrews won second with a 12.79. Sophia Kennedy and Gracia Jorgenson were fifth- and sixth-place, respectively, for Hettinger County to round out the top-6. Meanwhile, in the boys 100m, Dickinson Trinity's Luke Shobe finished in first with an 11.25 mark and Dayne Dorval took second for Killdeer with an 11.3 while his teammates Ethan Hendrickson was third in 11.37 and Cayden Neurohr finished sixth.

Bowman County took the top-2 places in the girls 200m with a 25.77 for Adyson Gerbig and a 26.48 for Andrews, while Trinity's Pavek was fifth and Landyn Gerbig ended up sixth for BCHS. On the boys side, Shobe took another blue ribbon with a 22.86 and his Trinity teammate Izaak Kudrna was in second with a 22.95, while Dorval ended up in third with a 23.56. Tallen Binstock was fifth for Hettinger County in the event.

The girls 400m dash was another top-finisher for Bowman County with a 1:05.84 for Jaci Fisher and Heart River's Holly Stuber finished second with a 1:08.09 while Trinity's Annabel Scheeler was in third with a 1:08.32. Bowman County's Sarsland and Trinity's Brenna Wolbaum rounded out fifth- and sixth-place, respectively. For the boys 400m, Binstock was first for Hettinger County with a 52.78 and Nathan Dix finished third for Bowman County with a 55.29 and Max Lefor was fourth for Trinity in 55.85 seconds.

The 800m run/dash ended up being a first-place for Abby Hardersen of Killdeer, who came in with a 2:33.42 and Hettinger-Scranton's Kelly Schauer ended up sixth, while on the boys side Matt Huether earned a blue ribbon with a time of 2:15.73 for Hettinger County and Blake Larson won third with a 2:18.21 for Hettinger-Scranton.

Hettinger County also took a first-place with a 5:39.21 for Ruby Nasset and Hettinger-Scranton nailed down fifth through Sadie Freitag and Beach's Makiah Hartleib took sixth in the 1600m run, while on the boys side Killdeer's Jekori Dahlen was second with a 5:06.54 and Hettinger County's Justin Kathrein was third with a 5:07.91. HCHS's Eli Hoerath was fifth in the event and Dickinson Trinity's Lukas Eilts rounded out the top-6.

Beach's Hartleib took home second in the 3200m run with a 14:26.12 and Dickinson Trinity earned four of the top-5 places in Jace Cofer — number-1 with a 10:25.24 — Eli Hansen with a 10:55.69 for second-place and third-place with an 11:31.87 was Lefor, while Joel Thorson earned fifth. Hettinger-Scranton's Trevor Dalley turned in a fourth-place 11:32.74.

Bowman County's AllieRae Stotts was second in the girls 100m hurdles with a 17.76 and her teammate Emersyn Hlebechuk was in fifth place and Nevaeh Muckle earned sixth for Trinity. On the boys side, Killdeer took second through Isaac Jaggi's 17.18 and teammates Tucker Bohmbach was fourth with a 19.42 and Grayson Fettig took fifth.

In the 300m hurdles, Andrews took first — place for Bowman County with a 49.72 and Hartleib took third for Beach with a 54.6, while Trinity took fifth and sixth with Scheeler and Muckle nailing down places. Hettinger-Scranton earned a third in the 300m hurdles for the boys with a 43.6 and Jaggi ended up fifth for Killdeer in the event.

Dickinson Trinity's team of Serenity Pavlicek, Kate Glaser, Anna Clifton and Pavek won the girls 4x100m relay with a 53.23 and Hettinger-Scranton was third in 54.7, while Hettinger County took sixth and on the boys side, Trinity's team of Gage Glaser, Kudrna and Luke and Jake Shobe earned first in the event. Killdeer was fourth in the 4x100m relay with a 47.63.

In the 4x200m relay, Trinity ended up second with a 1:53.26 and Hettinger-Scranton was third with a 1:56.40 and Heart River was fourth in 1:57.7.

In the 4x400m relay, Hettinger County's team of Sophie Olsonawski, Jazlyn Ottmar, Carly Wolf and Ruby Nasset were first with a 4:25.56, Killdeer earned third in the event with a 4:37.63 and Trinity took fourth in 4:43.39. Beach took second in the event on the boys side with a 4:06.54.

In the 4x800m relay, Olsonawski, Ottmar, Wolf and Nasset also blazed to first with a 10:21.25 while Killdeer finished second with a 10:33.78. Trinity was third with a 11:22.03. On the boys side, Dickinson Trinity's team of Cofer, Hansen, Lefor and Thorson won first with a time of 8:44 and Hettinger County took home second with a 9:14.45 while Richardton-Taylor earned third with a 9:26.85.

In the field events, Eastyn Gebhardt took first in the shot-put with a 35'1" mark and Vanessa Oase was fifth for Hettinger-Scranton, but for the boys it was again Hunter Rasmussen taking first-place with a mark of 52'1" for Bowman County. Mace Stuber also placed for BCHS with a 42'10" feat and Kane Rivinius rounded out the top-6 for Richardton-Taylor.

Killdeer's Gracie Doe was fourth with a 99'3" mark in the discus and Melissa Zach placed fifth, while for the boys Beach's Trey Swanson took second with a throw of 133'2". Bowman County's Grant Kees was fifth in the event and Rivinius was sixth.

Samantha Greff was fourth in the javelin with a 105'6" throw while Doe and Danielle Dobitz were fifth and sixth for Killdeer and Jayden Bailey won the boys event for Hearth River with a 161'4" toss and Kees took third for Bowman County with a 143'3" mark and Hettinger-Scranton's Malachi Dilse finished with a fourth-place 140'9" mark.

Madeline Lambert was first in the high-jump for Killdeer with a 5' mark and her teammate Brooke Baselt finished fourth with a 4'6" while Mariska Krank tied her for Richardton-Taylor and Hettinger-Scranton's Laela Jenson took sixth. Ethan Hendrickson took second in the high-jump for Killdeer with a 6' mark and his teammate Jaxon Reese was sixth, while Richardton-Taylor's Matthew Aune turned in a fifth-place performance.

The pole-vault saw Trinity's Anna Clifton take first for the girls with a 10' mark and Danielle Dobitz tied for second with an 8'6" effort for Killdeer. Bowman County's Sarsland was fourth and Killdeer's Josey Anderson was sixth in the event. Killdeer's Gus Bohmbach took first for the boys with a 12'3" leap and Trinity's Gage Glaser was second with a 12' mark and Killdeer's Elijah Ramos finished fifth with Trinity's Max Glaser rounding out the top-6.

Abby Talkington was first in the long-jump for Heart River at 17'5" and Sophie Johnson was second for Hettinger County with a 16'9" leap, while Adyson Gerbig, Ellie Powell, Landyn Gerbig and Sophia Headley earned fourth- through sixth-places for Bowman County. Hettinger County's Cole Manolovits was first in the long-jump for the boys with a 20'9.5" mark and Gage Glaser was fourth with a 19'10" for Trinity and Bowman County's Nathan Dix took fifth.

Avrie Nohava was first in the triple-jump for Bowman County at 33'8" and Anna Nasset was second with a 33'5" leap and Abby Talkington was third at 33'2" for Heart River. Jaycia Thomas and Allison Greff were fifth and sixth for Hettinger County in the event. For the boys side, Manolovits took fourth in the triple-jump at 41'4" and Dix took sixth for Bowman County.
