Area volleyball roundup: Gregory takes four-set road win over Corsica-Stickney

Sep. 24—CORSICA — Gregory took the first, third and fourth sets to record a road win over Corsica-Stickney on Thursday night. Set scores were 29-27, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-17.

Gregory (11-5): Brooklynn Kenzy powered her way to 12 kills, 14 digs, 10 assists and five blocks. Jessy VanDerWerff added nine kills and 20 digs for the Gorillas, who host White River on Sept. 28.

Corsica-Stickney (3-10): The Jaguars got double-doubles from Morgan Clites (10 kills, 14 digs, two blocks), Rachel Gerlach (11 kills, 11 digs, three blocks) and Sutten Eide (30 assists, 16 digs, four aces). Corsica-Stickney hosts Wessington Springs on Sept. 28.

Burke 3, Bon Homme 0

BURKE — Burke picked up its seventh win of the season, defeating Bon Homme in straight sets on Thursday night. Set scores 25-21, 25-9 and 25-17.

Burke (7-5): Adisyn Indahl had 14 kills, 10 digs and five ace serves for the Cougars. Indahl also reached 1,000 career digs in the match. Kailee Frank had eight kills, nine digs and six ace serves while Paige Bull had five kills and five blocks. Elly Witt added 13 assists and Ava Sargent added 10 assists and two serves. Burke plays against Wessington Springs in the KWL Tournament on Sept. 25 in Kimball.

Bon Homme (5-9): Olivia Bures had seven kills, seven digs and two ace serves while Erin Heusinkveld had seven kills, eight digs and three blocks. Jenna Duffek added seven digs, Jurni Vavruska added nine digs and four ace blocks and Jaden Kortan had 12 assists and five digs. The Cavaliers travel to Gayville-Volin on Sept. 28.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour 3, Mitchell Christian 0

TRIPP — Tripp-Delmont/Armour earned its sixth win on Thursday over Mitchell Christian in straight sets. Set scores were 25-22, 25-12 and 25-9.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (6-4): Statistics were not provided for the Nighthawks. Tripp-Delmont/Armour hosts Burke on Sept. 27 in Armour.

Mitchell Christian (2-8): Faith Goehring had nine digs and two ace serves while Hannah Stremick had 15 assists and six digs. Megan Reiner had eight digs and led the team with seven ace serves. Emma Fine added eight digs and Jordan Ziebart added three ace serves. The Golden Eagles travel to Sioux Falls Lutheran on Sept. 24.

Avon 3, Colome 0

COLOME — Avon notched its tenth win of the season with a straight-set road win over Colome on Thursday night. Set scores were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20.

Avon (10-4): Tiffany Pelton 10 kills, two blocks and an ace to lead the Pirates. McKenna Kocmich added 15 assists and five digs. Avon hosts Freeman Academy/Marion on Sept. 27.

Colome (5-6): Jordan Ring had five kills, four assists and two blocks. Colome hosts Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Sept. 28.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Canistota 0

EMERY — Bridewater-Emery remained perfect on Thursday, taking a home win over Canistota in straight sets. Set scores were 25-20, 25-4 and 25-13.

Bridgewater-Emery (14-0): Taylor Schallenkamp paced the Huskies with 15 kills and 11 digs. Casey Meyer chipped in 12 assists, seven digs, five kills and two aces. Bridgewater-Emery is at Chester Area on Sept. 25.

Canistota (1-15): Taylor McGregor led the Hawks with nine kills to go with two aces. Canistota takes on Burke at the KWL Tournament on Sept. 25 in Kimball.

Freeman 3, Menno 0

MENNO — Freeman reached double-digit wins for the season on Thursday night, defeating Menno in straight sets. Set scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-15.

Freeman (10-5): Kate Miller recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 14 digs to go with two blocks and two aces. Erin Uecker added 22 assists, eight kills, three aces and a pair of blocks for the Flyers, who face off with Dell Rapids in the Sanford Pentagon Tournament on Sept. 25 in Sioux Falls.

Menno (4-7): The Wolves were led by five kills, three blocks and an ace from Bridget Vaith. Paityn Huber had 12 digs, eight assists, three kills and an ace. Menno is at Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Sept. 27 in Lake Andes.

Irene-Wakonda 3, Hanson 2

ALEXANDRIA — Irene-Wakonda dropped the first two sets but came back to win on the road on Thursday night. Set scores were 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-12 and 15-11.

Irene-Wakonda (6-8): McKenna Mork had 11 assists, six kills, two digs and two aces. Madison Orr added seven blocks and five kills for the Eagles, who are headed to the Sanford Pentagon Tournament on Sept. 25 in Sioux Falls.

Hanson (3-10): Jalyn Kampshoff had 25 assists and 17 digs to lead the Beavers. Annalyse Weber added 32 digs and eight kills. Hanson faces Howard at the Sanford Pentagon Tournament on Sept. 25 in Sioux Falls.

Wagner 3, Kimball/White Lake 1

WHITE LAKE — Wagner picked up a four-set victory over Kimball/White Lake on Thursday night. Set scores were 15-25, 25-15, 25-6 and 25-13.

Wagner (13-4): Emma Yost had 11 kills and 15 digs. Kya Kjeldgaard had nine kills and Ava Bruguier had 11 digs. Macy Koupal had 30 assists, 10 digs and three ace serves for the Raiders. Madi Knebel added four ace serves, Shalayne Nagel added five blocks and Shona Kocer added six kills. Wagner hosts Hanson on Sept. 28.

Kimball/White Lake (7-5): Dani Deffenbaugh had seven kills, 12 digs and five ace serves while Ryann Nielsen had five kills and nine assists. Harley Namanny added five kills and Madison Heath added 18 digs. The Wildkats host Wall in the KWL Tournament on Sept. 25 in Kimball.

Parkston 3, McCook Central/Montrose 2

PARKSTON — Parkston reached double-digit wins on Thursday night, taking down McCook Central/Montrose in five sets. Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 22-25 and 15-7.

Parkston (10-8): Mya Nuebel put up 14 kills and 18 digs, as Faith Oakley recorded 37 assists. The Trojans match up with Ethan in the Sanford Pentagon Tournament on Sept. 25 in Sioux Falls.

McCook Central/Montrose (6-10): MCM was led by 17 kills and two blocks by Tayah McGregor. Brianna Even notched 44 assists and 12 digs for the Fighting Cougars, who host Dell Rapids on Sept. 28.

Wessington Springs 3, Lower Brule 0

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Wessington Springs won a home volleyball match on Thursday to earn its seventh win of the season. Set scores were 25-10, 25-11 and 25-21.

Wessington Springs (7-4): Carissa Scheel had six ace serves and four blocks while Alyssa Grohs had 21 assists and three ace serves. Raylee Fagerhaug added 15 digs for the Spartans. Wessington Springs plays against Burke in the KWL Tournament on Sept. 25, in Kimball.

Lower Brule (2-6): Statistics were not provided by Lower Brule. The Sioux play against Red Cloud on Oct. 2 in Rapid City.
