Area volleyball roundup for Sept. 22: McCook Central/Montrose sweeps Parkston

Sep. 23—SALEM — McCook Central/Montrose jumped out to an early lead over Parkston and didn't look back en route to a 3-0 win Thursday night. Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-18.

Tayah McGregor paced the Fighting Cougars with 13 kills, while adding six digs. Aubree Kranz was the leader in digs with 16 to go along with her three service aces. Brianna Even had 19 set assists in the three-set win, and Maddy Lauck led the team with five service aces.

Parkston was led by Faith Oakley, who recorded the lone double-double in the game, picking up 14 assists and 11 digs. Gracie Oakley led the team in kills with eight.

As a team, MCM recorded 14 service aces to Parkston's three.

MCM's (10-6) next match is Tuesday, Sept. 27 on the road at Dell Rapids, while Parkston (11-7) is playing in the Pentagon tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

* Northwestern's Ella Haven registered 17 kills, seven digs and five service aces in a three-set win over Waubay/Summit.

* In a straight-set win over Centerville, Coral Mason picked up a team-best 14 kills and 15 digs, to go along with a service ace, for Viborg-Hurley.

* Trinity Bietz collected 12 kills and 10 digs during Scotland's three-set win over Marty.

* Wagner's Emma Yost recorded a double-double in the Red Raiders' straight-set victory over Kimball/White Lake with 11 kills and 11 digs.

* Hanson's Jalyn Kampshoff tallied 39 set assists and two service aces in a four-set win for the Beavers. Annalyse Weber was tied for the team lead in kills with 11 while adding five digs and a pair of aces in the win over Irene-Wakonda.

* Rachael Krog had a team-high 18 kills coupled with 20 digs and two block assists during Elkton-Lake Benton's four-set victory over Colman-Egan.

* Madison's Audrey Nelson tallied 17 kills, 12 digs and four blocks in the Bulldogs' win over Tri-Valley.

* During Estelline-Hendricks' four-set win over Deubrook Area, Kenzy Beare had 17 kills, four blocks and 35 digs.

* Avon's Courtney Sees racked up a double-double with 18 kills and 20 digs, both team highs. She also added a service ace. Lila Vanderlei also had a double-double 11 kills and 16 digs, as well as two block assists in a win over Colome.

* Three players on Andes Central/Dakota Christian picked up double-doubles in a win over Freeman Academy/Marion, as Abigail Svatos recorded 15 kills and 10 digs, Josie Brouwer picked up 19 set assists and 26 digs and Mahpiyah Irving tallied 22 set assists and 11 digs.

Two Freeman standouts reached the 1,000-dig mark on Thursday night. During a three-set win over Menno, senior middle hitters Kate Miller and Erin Uecker both recorded their 1,000th career digs. Miller finished the night with 12 digs and nine kills with two service aces, while Uecker put up a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Uecker added three blocks and a pair of service aces, as well.
