Area wrestlers ready to face off at Bloomington North Sectional

Conference Indiana champ Terre Haute South, Western Indiana Conference champ Owen Valley and CI runner-up Bloomington South lead the team chase at Saturday's Bloomington North wrestling sectional.

THS brings in 11 top-four seeds, while OV has nine and the Panthers eight. But South has several other possible regional qualifiers with the top four in each weight class moving on to South next weekend.

Bloomington North and Edgewood each have two seeded in the top four.

Action starts at 9 a.m. with the finals starting around 2 p.m.

It will be the first action for the county's wrestlers since their respective conference meets on Jan. 15, choosing to sit two weeks, like they did last year, to avoid any COVID complications.

Owen Valley and Bloomington South have four No. 1 seeds each and THS, North, Edgewood, Terre Haute North, Sullivan and Indian Creek one each.

South's top seeds are Cameron Meier (106), Nicolas Castelluccio (145), Delaney Ruhlman (152) and Aiden Reynolds (160). Ethan Roudebush (132) and Evan Roudebush (138) are seeded second. Jackson Lynch (182) and Aiden Akers (285) are seeded third. Ruhlman and Reynolds were sectional champs last year.

But the Panthers have others to keep an eye on.

At 120, Miles Libby has wrestled just five times, but won at 113 last year. At 126, Aiden Gann (14-8) was a runner-up at 120 last season. At 170, Tuff Fender has been out all year, but was a runner-up there last year.

North's No. 1 seed is Chase Hostetler at 170, with Cael Hickok No. 3 at 160, while Edgewood's Cash Turner is undefeated at 138 and Colten Hubbell is a third seed at 195. At 106, the Mustangs also have Rylie Austin, who was a regional qualifier last year.

Libby, Turner, Ruhlman, Reynolds, Hostetler and Fender all made it to semistate in 2021.

South had won 12 straight until Terre Haute South ended the string last year. Owen Valley will be out for just the second sectional title in school history, the other coming in 1998.
