Arends celebrating 70th anniversary

Richard W. and Lucille R. (Heck) Arend of Monroe are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. A celebration with family is planned for later this summer.

The couple was married May 23, 1953, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monroe.

The couple has four children, Kevin Arend of Monroe, Lois (Scott Anthony) Arend of Baltimore, Maryland, Patricia (Paul) Hollister of Monroe and Michael (Kathy) Arend of Monroe. They also have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Arend graduated from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo in 1949 and attended the University of Toledo. He served in the Air Force from 1951-55. He worked for Monroe Auto Equipment in the racing division for 34 years, retiring in 1992. He enjoys fishing and golfing.

Mrs. Arend graduated from Monroe High School in 1950 and attended Robinwood Hospital School of Nursing (later St. Luke’s Hospital) from 1950-53. She worked as a registered nurse at the hospitals in Monroe and at Doehler-Jarvis Manufacturing in Toledo. She also volunteered at numerous American Red Cross blood drives throughout Monroe County. She enjoys reading and doing puzzles.

The Arends are members of the Monroe Antique Car Klub, the Detroit Triumph Sports Car Club, Lake Erie British Car Club and Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe.

They enjoy spending time with their family and going to their cottage in the Irish Hills.
