Aretha Franklin’s Son Tries to Block Property Sale After Secret Will Discovery

One of Aretha Franklin’s sons is objecting to the estate’s plan of selling property owned by the late singer, and he’s arguing that the discovery of the secret wills should put a freeze on anything being sold.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Kecalf Franklin is asking the judge to halt the proposed sale of the 1.05-acre vacant lot, which is located next to a home the singer owned in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Kecalf states that since three handwritten wills were just found in his mother’s home by the estate representative, he wants the sale paused.

He notes one of the wills appointed him as the head of the estate and awards him the property in question, which he argues could be worth between $430,000 and $1.2 million.

Kecalf says the estate has been trying to sell off the land despite Aretha always wanting her home and the land to be connected on the same plot. Aretha originally bought the vacant lot “because she was concerned about her privacy.”

He is asking the court to transfer the property to him, per the will’s instructions. The judge has yet to rule.

As we reported, the entire family is now arguing over the legitimacy of the newly-discovered documents.
