Oct. 4—The October edition of the local TV program hosted by state Sen. David G. Argall, R-29, Rush Twp., highlights the recent dedication ceremony for Staudenmeier Station at Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine & Steam Train.

"This new train station named in memory of Schuylkill County Commissioner Frank Staudenmeier is a fitting tribute to a man who cared so much about this place, his hometown of Ashland, and our region," Argall was quoted in a news release.

Pioneer Tunnel has been open since 1962.

The site was an active underground anthracite mine until it ceased operations during the Great Depression in 1931.

Argall and Staudenmeier, who died while in office in 2020, worked together to provide funding for improvements to the site, including a $400,000 state grant to construct a new train barn which houses the lokie steam engines.
