Argentina coast guard fires on Chinese boat fishing illegally

Argentina’s coast guard fired on a Chinese boat that was illegally fishing in its waters, it has claimed.

They then went on an almost eight-hour chase to try and capture the fishing boat but it managed to escape and none of the crew were detained

The coast guard took a decision to use “machine-gun and cannon fire” to stop the vessel's ability to move.

Video footage shows the moment when one of the Argentinians warns the Jing Yuan 626 before opening fire.

“You’re responsible for the safety of your crew and your ship. You are about to receive direct fire on the bow part of your ship,’ the officer says via radio,” the officer is heard saying, according to the Mail Online.

“Bow, command bridge. Are we ready? Okay, free fire one shot to the boat’s bow over waterline.”

In 2016 Argentina’s coastguard chased and sank a Chinese vessel that it says was fishing illegally.

All 32 crew members were rescue but China expressed “serious concern” over the sinking.
