Two flights carrying 843,600 AstraZeneca vaccines and some 609,965 doses of the first component of the Sputnik V vaccine arrived in Buenos Aires on May 24 amid a nationwide lockdown and record coronavirus cases.

Facing new infections that have topped 30,000 per day, the Argentine government put restrictions in place over the weekend, which are scheduled to last until the end of May.

“We are living the worst moment since the pandemic began,” President Alberto Fernandez said ahead of the new measures, which will impose a curfew on most Argentines, and close non-essential businesses and schools.
