Argentine paralympic swimmer builds plastic bag pool
Pools shut? No problem
Location: Florencio Varela, Argentina
Paralympian swimmer Sebastian Galleguillo
kept up his training during lockdown
by building a makeshift "pool" in his backyard
with the help of his bricklayer dad
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) PARALYMPIC ATHLETE'S FATHER, EDMUNDO CESAR HERNANDEZ, SAYING:
"We made do with what we had here and we started building. The first day was nailing logs on the floor, the second was putting sheets and plastic so that the water does not drain. Later, we bought 49-foot-long by 13-foot-wide plastic sheeting that forms a bag and that is what holds the water."
Sebastian is in a team of deaf swimmers
and is training to take part
in the 2021 Brazil Deaflympics
He trains daily in his DIY pool
heated from wood burned in a metal drum
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) PARALYMPIC ATHLETE, SEBASTIAN GALLEGUILLO, SAYING:
"I said to my mom: I want to train again because I am becoming rigid, I am losing mobility in my body, losing flexibility in my shoulder, my hip and rotator. It's not the same to train outside as being in the water. In the water you have a different touch, it's a feeling, it's like writing all day and you start writing better."
