Ariana Grande ditches signature high ponytail for natural curls; mom Joan approves

Ariana Grande is practicing social distancing… from her signature hairstyle, that is.

The singer, 26, said "Thank U, Next" to her go-to high ponytail while self-quarantining at home and gave fans a rare look at her natural curls on Instagram Monday.

"get a load a dis," Grande captioned an au naturale selfie.

The picture showed off her natural, bouncy curls cascading down her face and back. Grande's real hair appears healthier than ever. Previously, Grande had opened up about her hair suffering severe damage from playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon series' "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat" from 2010 and 2014.

"I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat… as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair," Grande explained on Facebook in 2014. "I wear it in a pony tail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down."

A high ponytail that incorporates extensions became her signature hairstyle after the pop star unsuccessfully tried wigs and weaves.

In 2014, Grande embarked on the "difficult" journey of waiting "forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined," she said.

Grande proudly flaunted her hair growth on Monday, drawing praise from many celebrities, her devoted Arianators and even her mother, Joan Grande.

"your natural hair/curls is a world of its own," Joan wrote on Twitter. "A magnificent beauty you are inside and out/ made up or natural… I love you."

In another tweet, Joan added, "Beyond stunning."

"beautiful," Lil Nas X commented on Instagram.

Katharine McPhee added, "Omg gorgeous!"

This is not the first time Grande has showed her natural hair to the world. In 2018, Grande showed off her shoulder-length hair on her Instagram. In November, Grande again flashed her natural curls in her black and white Instagram Story video.
