Ariana Grande “God is a woman” Music Video Lawsuit Dropped
Ariana Grande is no longer facing a lawsuit over her “God is a woman” music video, The Blast reports and Pitchfork can confirm. According to an August 16 filing in a Nevada federal court (obtained by Pitchfork), the parties reached a resolution. Pitchfork has reached out to Ariana Grande’s representatives for comment.
Visual artist Vladimir Kush and his Kush Fine Arts Las Vegas, Inc. filed the lawsuit against Grande in January 2019. In the original complaint, Kush’s attorneys argued that imagery in Grande’s “God is a woman” music video appropriated and infringed upon his paintings “The Candle” and “The Candle 2.”
In addition, the suit named director Dave Meyers and production company Freenjoy, Inc. among the plaintiffs, noting that Freenjoy was also involved with Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” music video, which faced similar copyright infringement claims. That suit was eventually settled.
