Ariana Grande Hilariously Recreated a Scene From 'The Waterboy'

From Men's Health

  • While social distancing at home, Ariana Grande expertly recreated a scene from Adam Sandler's classic film The Waterboy.

  • Sandler responded to her recreation, praising the video.

  • It's an expertly-made video: the costumes, the make-up, and the details are perfect.

We're all starting to dig in and get used to this new normal of social distancing and quarantine—even pop stars and movie stars. Ariana Grande, one of the biggest of the former group, spent a little of her mid-week time recreating a very funny scene from The Waterboy. The movie's star, Adam Sandler (one of the biggest of the latter group) found the time to respond accordingly to her rather detailed and on-point effort.

Grande recreated the scene with Elizabeth Gillies, an actress and her former Victorious costar, playing the role of Vicki Vallencourt, and her own mother, Joan, playing Kathy Bates' iconic Mama Boucher role. Also, as you can see in the video, the pop star is setting a good example for her millions of fans—the video has appropriate social distancing in place, as all three participants are clearly in different locations.

The detail to the scene is on-point; Grande has totally recreated Bobby Boucher's ridiculous suit from that point in the movie, and her mother looks on-point as Bates' Mama character. Perhaps most of all, Gillies looks like a dead ringer for Vicki Vallencourt (originally played by Fairuza Balk in the 1998 film).

Grande's Tweet, which she captioned "another super productive day," has already racked up more than 26 thousand retweets.

Sandler clearly got wind of the video later in the day, and overnight posted a response to the video, quoting it for his own Tweet. "A tough day for Bobby...Vicki...and Mama," he wrote. Grande responded to his tweet with a simple heart. Game respect game.

Grande has proven previously to be a ferociously loyal fan of 1990s comedy—last year, she seemed legitimately starstruck after interacting with '90s comedy icon Jim Carrey, and even had a guest appearance on the second season of his Showtime series, Kidding.

The longer social distancing and quarantine lasts, the more weird comedy stuff like this we're likely to get. We'll take it!
