Some zodiac pairs are truly written in the stars, while others might take a bit more work. A great example of an A-for-effort pair: Pisces and Aries. It doesn’t come easy for these two, but with patience and conviction to improve their understanding of one another, this can be a cosmic connection.

Aries tend to be all in or all out when it comes to their relationships, says Narayana Montúfar, senior astrologer at Astrology.com and author of Moon Signs. Ultimately, they rely on enthusiasm to keep things fresh and alive, but they still have their me-obsessed moments. "At times, Aries can be a little selfish and overly self-reliant, so their partner may feel sidelined," she notes.

Pisces tend to fall easily, but are sometimes unrealistic about what they expect out of the relationship—despite being very in tune with their emotions. "Pisces wears rose-colored glasses in romance, so the sign may not have a clear idea of [their] partner or relationship," adds Montúfar.

But, both signs bring complementary energy into a potential partnership. "Aries tends to be an extremely vivacious partner, usually bringing nothing but spirited conversations and new adventures in relationships," says Montúfar. This seems to be a great fit for Pisces who, according to Montúfar, "desires vulnerability, intuition, and boundless love in a romantic relationship."

Whether a Pisces or an Aries is a new lover, an old friend, or even an acquaintance that you see every now and then, it doesn’t hurt to check how the signs align. Read on for a full explainer on just how compatible (or incompatible) these two can really be.

How do Pisces and Aries match up sexually?

Some signs can get into the swing on things pretty quickly, but these two might have to make small adjustments to find their flow. While Aries is "incredibly excitable with an insatiable lust and drive," Pisces are more into "sweet romance," says Montúfar. In other words, Pisces like to take things a little bit slower than Aries do.

"Both have a lot of talent to bring to the bedroom, but may differ in sexual expression," adds Montúfar. "Aries will need to take it a bit slower and be more sexually vulnerable, while Pisces may have to play into a lusty desire."

What about these zodiac signs' emotional compatibility?

Pisces and Aries are both highly emotional signs, but the way they express those emotions differ greatly. Montúfar points out that Aries, a fire sign, "blazes with emotional reactivity and brashness," whereas Pisces, a water sign, prefers to escape into their emotions rather than express them.

Because Pisces tend to be more sensitive and aware of their emotions, Aries needs to be mindful about how they express themselves. To understand each other better, these signs will have to be upfront and work together to be receptive to each other's emotions, says Montúfar.

Speaking of fire signs:

So, how do Pisces and Aries differ in communication styles?

The passive nature of Pisces can be overwhelmed by Aries' straightforward and outspoken tendencies. Montúfar describes Aries' communication style as "refreshing" but adds that "at times, Aries can have poor timing as it may be a little too honest to the point of being hurtful."

Aries' openness can work for Pisces who, Montúfar notes, often lets others speak their minds and prefers being more intentional about when they decide to speak up.

Since Pisces tends to be more "poetic," it may be hard to speak the same language as their partner. "...Pisces can have an easily confused communication style, so it may ramble with no clear goal or opinion," she explains. Aries tends to be very clear; they'll have to work on balancing speaking their mind (in a way that's still honest) with a more delicate delivery.

What are the potential problem areas in a Pisces-Aries relationship?

The struggle areas for these two signs seem to be based on the overall nature of their personalities. As in-the-moment thinkers, Aries "may struggle with impulsivity, as this sign’s instincts may lead Aries to act without a second thought or game plan," says Montúfar. And since they're all about adventure and high energy, Aries is prone to tapping out of relationships quickly rather than sticking around to make improvements.

Pisces is likely unaware of these needs since they tend to have an overly optimistic outlook of relationships. As a result, Montúfar suggests they might end up blocking out certain realities that are of high importance to Aries.

In a nutshell, since their communication styles differ greatly, both parties will have to be aware of how the other handles confrontation to work efficiently.

So, how can these signs better communicate with one another?

There's no denying there are a lot of differences between Pisces and Aries, but the dynamic is certainly workable. With communication and emotional expression being the most pressing challenges, Montúfar believes that Aries will have to hold back on "aggressively taking charge" and "develop better active listening skills since Pisces will need this to feel heard."

To create a well-balanced relationship, Pisces will need to get accustomed to speaking up and expressing how they feel so as not have their needs overlooked. This is especially important since Aries is always up for a good conversation about whatever they're passionate about.
