SOUTH BEND – Aris Andrews is the defending champion when the 2022 Greater South Bend Senior Men’s Metro Golf Championships begin Saturday morning at Elbel Park Golf Club. The 65-year-old Andrews won his first-ever Men’s Metro golf title by beating 61-year-old Randy Moreno on the second hole of sudden death last year in the final round at Erskine Park. Erskine once again will be the final-round site this Sunday.

Last year, Andrews shot a 4-over 74 at Erskine Park for a 7-over total of 149 and was tied by Moreno, who closed with a 3-over 73. Moreno made an 18-footer for par on the first playoff hole to keep the tournament going before Andrews ended it on the second hole with his two-foot putt for par.

Andrews and Moreno will be competing in the 60-69 age division and will tee off at 9 a.m. with Jim Shaw. Also in the flight is 2019 champion Kevin Kowalski.

Martin Nash, who won the 50-59 flight title last year, returns in the flight and tees off with Dan Tobin and Bruce Berta at 9:27 Saturday morning. Defending 70-over flight champion Stan Gebo tees off at 10:03 in a threesome with David Krizman and Richard Neher.

A total of 43 golfers will be competing this year. Tee times for Sunday’s final round at Erskine Park will be available after Saturday’s first round is completed.
