Arizona Cardinals' new black helmet not high in NFL alternate helmet rankings for 2022

Several NFL teams have released new alternate helmets for the 2022 season, including the Arizona Cardinals, who unveiled a new black helmet on Sunday.

A lot of fans have raved about Arizona's new helmets, with many hoping they are a precursor to a new uniform for the Cardinals.

But some NFL helmet rankings are not exactly high on the Cardinals' new head gear, at least in relation to the new looks of some other NFL teams.

For the Win ranked the new NFL alternate helmets for 2022 so far and had the Cardinals' helmet ranked No. 12 of 13 on its list.

Prince J. Grimes wrote: "Maybe these look better in live action with the sun gleaming off the creative paint job, but this uber-dramatic video did nothing to make me like these."

Sporting News had Arizona's new alternate headwear ranked eighth out of 10 new NFL alternate helmets.

Bill Bender wrote: "The Cardinals described this as a "a galactic black fire-sky shell," which is an oversell considering how many other teams are tossing in a black helmet. The three-dimensional look on the logo is hot, but this reminds us of something Louisville would wear for an ACC showdown with Clemson."

CBS Sports was higher on the Cardinals' new helmets.

It had Arizona's helmets ranked fifth of nine alternate NFL helmets for the upcoming season (it had the others in a "throwback" tier).

Jeff Kerr wrote: "The Cardinals debuted these excellent black helmets that will be worn with their alternate black uniform and their color rush uniform. These helmets will look strong with both uniform designs. Arizona can wear the alternate uniforms with black or white pants, giving a fresh look when the Cardinals do wear them. The look is solid with the white numbers and the helmet meshes well. As for the color rush uniform, the panels on the arms are red instead of white, with different color numbers (red) and black pants (instead of white). With this helmet design, the Cardinals complete their black alternate and color rush set. Good job by Arizona here."
