Will the Arizona Cardinals trade wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins?

Speculation surrounding the team and its top wide receiver is swirling throughout the NFL.

Hopkins turns 31 in June and is under contract for two more years with guaranteed base salaries of $19.4 million this season and $14.9 million next season.

The Cardinals, however, could lower Hopkins' dead cap hit of $30 million this season by trading the wide receiver.

With a team that might be rebuilding next season and with starting quarterback Kyler Murray expected to miss time recovering from off-season surgery, trade speculation has been running rampant around the NFL team and Hopkins.

Here's what some NFL writers are speculating about the Cardinals and the wide receiver:

NFL insider Ian Rapoport: How could a DeAndre Hopkins trade timeline look?

Rapoport, who works for NFL Media, told Fox Sports 910 that if Hopkins were traded it could be "probably within the next ten days, I would say.  You're looking at probably right before the start of the league year, that's when most of these trades happen.  I assume there have been conversations going on in Indy. We haven't heard a lot of rumors. I would imagine, just based on where he comes from, his lineage, he's not a big media guy, I imagine Monti Ossenfort probably keeps it pretty close to the vest.  He's had plenty of opportunities and he's never shut the door on a DeAndre Hopkins trade …"

Cardinals Insider Mike Jurecki: Cardinals looking for at least a second round pick for DeAndre Hopkins

Jurecki tweeted: "According to a couple agents I’ve spoken with the Cardinals looking for at least a second round pick and a conditional pick for DeAndre Hopkins. These conversations are taking place at the combine."

Fansided: Broncos have capital to pull off DeAndre Hopkins trade

Lou Scataglia wrote: "There is nothing to say that the Denver Broncos could not make an offer involving a player and a lower draft pick. For example, what if the Denver Broncos offered the Cardinals wide receiver Courtland Sutton and a late-round pick for DeAndre Hopkins? It's unlikely I think, but think of it this way; there is no guarantee that the Cardinals would be able to draft a player of Sutton's caliber with their second-round pick. No matter how high a draft pick is, there is always the concern that they might not pan out."

Fansided: Chiefs circled as team to watch in DeAndre Hopkins trade

Cody Williams wrote: "Of the Chiefs have a chance to take advantage of Arizona unloading a star like Hopkins for great value in what it would cost in a trade, that becomes much more enticing. There’s nothing like having another trump card in an offense with the best quarterback in football and the best tight end as well. That’s what Hopkins could be. It’s Combine week, which means that we’ll definitely hear a lot more like this. But if you’re wondering where DeAndre Hopkins might be traded, keep one eye fixed on Kansas City."

The Athletic: DeAndre Hopkins to Patriots a 'long shot'

Jeff Howe wrote: "Never say never, but it would be viewed as a pretty major surprise if the Patriots traded for Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkin. Coach Bill Belichick has a strong affinity for Hopkins, something that was on display when the teams met in Week 14 on 'Monday Night Football,' which has led to speculation the Patriots could target Hopkins in a trade this offseason. However, Hopkins fell out of favor with new Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien before O’Brien traded him out of Houston in 2020. A possible reunion? Maybe, but consider it a long shot."
