The 2022 NFL trade deadline came and went on Tuesday with the 3-5 Arizona Cardinals being very quiet.
The team didn't make a trade, but it did sign free-agent linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, who had requested his release from the Houston Texans last week.
Before the deadline, the team did trade for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson on Oct. 17.
One NFL writer was not impressed with the Cardinals' moves, or lack thereof, listing Cardinals GM Steve Keim and coach Kliff Kingsbury among its losers at the NFL trade deadline.
NFL Week 9 picks, predictions:
Eagles vs. Texans | Chargers vs. Falcons | Dolphins vs. Bears
Panthers vs. Bengals | Packers vs. Lions | Raiders vs. Jaguars
Colts vs. Patriots | Bills vs. Jets | Vikings vs. Commanders
Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated wrote: "Not only are the Seahawks good, but the 49ers got way, way better. The Rams will awaken at some point, which leaves the Cardinals buried at the bottom of the division, even with DeAndre Hopkins rejoining the lineup. The Cardinals have been so bizarrely, situationally aggressive but stood pat at the deadline with a roster that doesn’t have a ton of flexibility. They didn’t see an advantage in accumulating more capital for the future (given their track record of picks, they could use more lottery tickets), nor did they see the advantage in making a play for someone who could get the offense in a better place."
Reaction: Kliff Kingsbury criticism, calls to be fired mount after Arizona Cardinals' NFL Week 8 loss
Not everyone agreed with Orr's assessment of the Cardinals' trade deadline, however.
Sports Illustrated's Donnie Druin wrote: "The Cardinals seem to be well aware that plenty of their problems reside in house, and perhaps should focus on watering their own grass before looking for other options. It's not like Keim is notorious for this, either. Let's remember trades that brought Zach Ertz and DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona too. Every NFL team should constantly be looking to upgrade their roster, but at a certain point, the cost of doing business may cross areas teams shouldn't enter. I'm not in those meetings, nor involved with those negotiations. Yet from the outside, it appears the Cardinals made the right call."

Cards Wire's Jess Root also shared his thoughts on Arizona's quiet NFL trade deadline.
"One could argue that they should have been active players in acquiring either an impact pass rusher off the edge or a proven interior defensive lineman," he wrote. "However, they made their deals below. They acquired receiver Robbie Anderson two weeks ago after Marquise Brown injured his foot and would miss several weeks. Essentially, the team believes that it is talented enough as constructed to achieve their goals, or it could be that they don’t believe any one player was worth the cost to make them marginally better. They chose to be active before the deadline, not at the deadline."

I think they should have been sellers, but at least the Cardinals didn’t trade away more draft capital at the deadline.

Contending teams are making big trades this year has me thinking about what the 7-1 Cardinals did last year.
The lone acquisition was Ertz.
Injuries decimated a thin CB room (Gilmore avail) and further handcuffed OL, WR and DL.
What could have been if they truly went "all-in".— Chuck Harris (@chuckh3) November 1, 2022
Feels a little odd that the Arizona Cardinals weren’t mentioned in any potential trades today, let alone actually making one.
Does that mean Michael Bidwill and Steve Keim think this roster can win? Or resigned to the fate of being a 7 or 8 win team in 2022?— Alex Clancy (@ClancysCorner) November 1, 2022
And the Cardinals have passed the trade deadline without making any major moves.
Not surprising, but disappointing for a team that could use help at several positions.— Kyler Burd (@AZCard_BurdsEye) November 1, 2022
