Rewind: Arizona Cardinals' furious comeback ends in thrilling OT win over Las Vegas Raiders

The Arizona Cardinals (1-1) recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in overtime against the Las Vegas Raiders (0-2) to complete an unlikely comeback with a 29-23 victory on Sunday.

Arizona trailed 20-0 at the half. After the break, the Cardinals outscored the Raiders 29-3. They closed to within a conversion 23-21 when Kyler Murray scrambled for a 3-yard touchdown as the fourth quarter expired.

The Cardinals needed a 2-point conversion to tie the game. That was run with the clock on triple zeroes.

Earlier in the game, Murray scampered around the field for more than 20 seconds before crossing the goal line for a 2-point conversion. That made it a one-score game with 8:13 to play.

This time, the Cardinals were backed up 5 yards by a delay of game penalty.

That slowed the Arizona, but didn't stop it. Kyler Murray found A.J. Green in the back of the end zone for a diving catch for the 2-point conversion. The play stood up under review and the teams moved to overtime.

The Arizona Cardinals got the ball first in overtime, but didn't get any points to show for it.

Arizona moved the ball to the Raiders 37 and faced a fourth-and-1. The Cardinals went for it, with Kyler Murray targeting A.J. Green with a deep ball. Green looked to have the ball in hand in the red zone, but it was jarred away with a hard hit.

The Raiders took over on downs, needing just a field goal to win. They wouldn't get that. Instead, Isaiah Simmons forced a fumble after a catch by the Raiders Hunter Renfrow. Bryron Murphy recovered the ball and returned it 59 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

Murray was 31-for-49 passing for 277 yards with one touchdown, one interception and one very important 2-point conversion. Zach Ertz caught eight passes for 75 yards.

Murray added 28 yards and a touchdown five carries. The ground game combined for 143 yards on 28 runs.

Comeback complete

The Arizona Cardinals evened the score at 23-all thanks to a series of unlikely events in the final minute of their game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Slowest 2-point conversion ever?

The Arizona Cardinals moved to within a score, 23-15, of the Las Vegas Raiders thanks to an interesting 2-point conversion from Kyler Murray. 

The play consists of Murray running around the field for more than 20 seconds. The best way to understand it, is to see it. 

The conversion came after the Cardinals scored on a 1-yard run by Darrell Williams. That touchdown was set up when the Arizona converted a fourth-and-4 from the Raiders 24 with the help of a pass interference call. The throw to Hollywood Brown was initially ruled a 25-yard touchdown, but was reversed on review and the Cardinals were left at the 1.

The Las Vegas Raiders hold a 23-7 lead over the Arizona Cardinals with 15 minutes to play. 

The Cardinals are without running back James Conner, who was seen on the sidelines stretching his legs. Eno Benjamin has taken over and has 21 yards on four carries. 

Cardinals on the board

Kyler Murray completed a 5-yard pass to Greg Dortch to put the Cardinals on the board. 

For the first time all game, the offensive line gave Murray some protection and time to find his receivers. 

The 11-play, 79 yard drive took 5:27 off the clock. 

The Cardinals trail 20-7. 

First-half frustrations

The Arizona Cardinals head to the locker room down 20-0 to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The score reflects the Cardinals' play.

Kyler Murray is just 6-for-9 passing for 53 yards with an interception. His counterpart with the Raiders, Derek Carr is 18-for-24 for 210 yards and two touchdowns. 

The separation between the teams doesn't end there. The Raiders lead in first downs (15:5), total yards (253:86) and time of possession (18:12 to 11:48).

Arizona has yet to make a trip to the red zone.

The Cardinals will open the second half with the ball.

Darren Waller caught a 3-yard pass from Derek Carr as the Las Vegas Raiders took a 17-0 lead over the Arizona Cardinals late in the second quarter. 

Little has disrupted Carr and the Raider offense, which is dominating time of possession in addition to the score. 

Carr is 15-for-20 for 178 yards and two touchdowns. 

Crosby and Jones

Another negative play set the Cardinals up for third-and-21. The long-yard situation was a result of Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray throwing the ball out of bounds under duress and being flagged for intentional grounding. 

Brining the pressure were former Cardinal Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby. 

Arizona ended the possession with its second punt of the game. 

Under pressure

The Arizona Cardinals were finally able to get some pressure on Derek Carr and it paid off. 

On second down, with the Raiders threatening from the 14, Arizona's defense finally go to Carr. While the pressure didn't result in a sack or turnover, it did force the Raiders quarterback into a quick throw the sailed out of reach of his receiver.

Las Vegas settled for a field goal on the possession and leads 10-0.

Negative plays

A sack on Arizona's first possession was simply too much for the Cardinals to overcome. 

Maxx Crosby delivered the hit that dropped Kyler Murray for a 7-yard loss. That set the Cardinals up for a third-and-14. Murray found Hollywood Brown for a 10-yard gain, but following the sack, it wasn't enough. 

Andy Lee punted 56 yards for a touchback. 

The Cardinals possessed the ball for just 4:01 in the first quarter and ran just six plays. 

Raiders strike first

The Las Vegas Raiders received the opening kickoff. The drive, which took nearly 10 minutes off the game clock, ended with a 1-year pass from Derek Carr to Devonte Adams. The touchdown was set up by a pass interference call against the Cardinals in the end zone. 

Roster updates

DE J.J. Watt and LG Justin Pugh are both active Sunday for the Cardinals as is rookie TE Trey McBride.

The inactives for the Raiders include S Tre-von Moehrig, RB Bradon Bolden, RB Brittain Brown, LB Denzel Perryman, C Andre James, DT Neil Farrell, and DT Matthew Butler.
