In one, the Diamondbacks sent outfielder David Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for catching prospect Christian Cerda.

In another, Arizona sent pitcher Luke Weaver to the Kansas City Royals for third baseman Emmanuel Rivera.

twsn.net: Diamondbacks get a C for MLB trade deadline grades

It writes: "The Diamondbacks only made two moves, shipping off pitcher Luke Weaver and outfielder David Peralta for quality prospect returns. Arizona didn’t have a ton of moveable pieces outside Peralta and Weaver. However, I would’ve like to see them try and move starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner. Arizona didn’t have a great deadline but it wasn’t awful, they made moves that allow them to replenish their farm system for the future and off load some contracts. They did as planned."

Odds Checker: Diamondbacks earn a B for David Peralta trade

Jason Radowitz writes: "The Rays needed some help offensively and got their guy in David Peralta. The Rays didn't give up much but there were clearly better options than Peralta in the mix."

ESPN: Diamondbacks receive a C for David Peralta trade

David Schoenfield wrote: "Cerda was born in the Bronx, but signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019. There is some offensive potential here and with more walks (15) than strikeouts (12) this season, he’s at least showing some feel for the strike zone. But this is a pure lottery ticket. Usually, teams settle for a couple low-level pitchers in this kind of deal, so at least give the Diamondbacks credit for thinking outside the box. Still, given the lack of decent hitters available, it’s a little surprising the Diamondbacks weren’t able to get a little more for Peralta. Check back in two years."

Sporting News: Diamondbacks earn a C for Luke Weaver trade

Kevin Skiver wrote: "File this one away under nothing-burger deals. Neither team really made their roster better or worse here, the Royals just wanted to add an arm with another year of arbitration whereas the Diamondbacks get a third baseman with a ton of team control who is very much figuring things out. It's not a needle-mover."

Sporting News: Diamondbacks get an A- for David Peralta deal

Kevin Skiver wrote: "The Diamondbacks had to thin out their outfield roster heading into the deadline, and they did so with a nice return by trading David Peralta to the Rays for catcher Christian Cerda. The Rays, conversely, needed another bat in the order. Peralta, a veteran, has 12 home runs on the year and should bring some power to tide over the Rays until they get their key players back in the lineup. Cerda is extremely young and far out from being able to make any kind of MLB impact, so this move makes sense for both teams. He's having a strong season for the Rays at their rookie level affiliate in Florida, but the Rays needed help ASAP."

Franchise Sports: Diamondbacks land a C+ for Luke Weaver trade

Sam Cox wrote: "The Diamondbacks have seen Luke Weaver find his best stuff out the bullpen over the last month and it resulted in a trade with the Royals, who are long-time admirers of the former Cardinal. Arizona landed Emmanuel Rivera, a controllable infielder, in return. The Royals plan to see what Weaver can do as a reliever for the rest of the season, while the Diamondbacks will hope Rivera can recreate the dominance at the plater we’ve seen in triple-A."

Franchise Sports: Diamondbacks take a C for David Peralta trade

Sam Cox writes: "Enjoying something of a late-career boom, David Peralta is a really nice fit with the Rays. Tampa Bay has just an 85 wRC+ from its left-handed hitters on the season, and there is something of a hole in the outfield with Manny Margot and Kevin Kiermaier on the injured list. Brett Phillips has been a disappointment. Peralta remains a plus defender in left. He’s lifting the ball far more than ever before, aiding his cause for a best xwOBA since 2018. This was a cheap addition for the Rays, too, with teenage catcher Christian Cerda being the only prospect to go to Arizona. Hitting well in rookie ball, Cerda is farm depth for the Dbacks, who were never going to do much better for a rental of this natures."

Bleacher Report: Diamondbacks receive a C for David Peralta trade

Zachary D. Rymer writes:  "The Diamondbacks were able to hang around .500 for a while there, but a trade of Peralta seemed more and more inevitable as the losses piled up in June and July. In Cerda, they're getting a 19-year-old catcher with a .982 OPS and a 30 percent caught-stealing rate in the minors this season. Those numbers look great...but that was over just 20 games at the rookie-level Florida Complex League.

In other words, Cerda remains more of a project than a proper prospect. That isn't a knock against him, but one does wonder if the Snakes could have done better for the best rental among their inventory of trade chips."
