These Arizona Macy's stores will have Toys R Us shops for holiday season and thereafter
The Toys R Us brand has been around for roughly 70 years, but the toy retailer's newest owner is trying something different this holiday season.
Owner WHP Global has partnered to include Toys R Us spaces in Macy's department stores in Arizona and other states. A Macy's spokeswoman said they will remain in place after the holiday season.
The locations range in size from roughly 1,000 square feet to more than 14,000 square feet and feature toy displays, a hands-on demonstration table allowing kids to try various products and a Geoffrey giraffe mascot available for photos.
The companies said the Toys R Us sites are located at all seven Macy's Arizona stores — Scottsdale Fashion Square, Chandler Fashion Center, Biltmore Fashion Park and Arrowhead Towne Center, as well as Santan Village, Superstition Springs Center and Tucson Mall.
Nata Dvir, chief marketing officer at Macy's, earlier this year said the department store chain's toy sales have seen "tremendous growth" from the displays and online sales. Toys R Us products also are available at macys.com/toysrus. The companies started the partnership in 2021, expanding it for the holiday season this year.
Earlier, they said the toy storefronts would locate in all Macy's stores in North America for the holiday season, though some media reports have indicated they aren't yet available everywhere.
WHP Global acquired a controlling interest after Toys R Us emerged from bankruptcy in 2019. The toy retailer previously had closed nearly all of its own stores.
New York-based WHP also owns brands including Anne Klein in women's fashion and Joseph Abboud in men's fashion.
