Arizona man accused of 19 felonies, robbing 12 people at gun or knifepoint

Arizona authorities say a man suspected of committing a four-day crime spree in cities Mesa and Chandler has been hit with 19 felony charges, ABC 15 reports.

Guillermo Reyes, 34, was charged with multiple armed robberies, car thefts and aggravated assaults after allegedly carjacking, or in one case attempting to carjack, 12 people at gun or knifepoint.

Reyes surrendered to cops around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 9, after barricading himself in a Chandler hotel room for hours.

Cops say his spree began in Mesa at 6:46 p.m. on Sept. 29 when he opened fire on two unsuspecting people in their car.

The suspect was described as a short and stocky Hispanic man who fled in a black Cadillac Escalade and was donning a blue Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap.

About 30 minutes later, Reyes allegedly robbed another victim at gunpoint elsewhere in Mesa, stealing the individual’s purple Mercedes C320. Nearby, cops located the abandoned Escalade.

Cops were approached by an additional trio of victims who said they had been in a Ford Escape that wouldn’t start when the suspect approached them and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. Upon realizing the vehicle wouldn’t start, Reyes walked off and allegedly nabbed the Mercedes.

Still in Mesa, he allegedly robbed another two people at knifepoint at just after 8 p.m. at Tom’s BBQ.

Just before midnight, cops in Mesa were dispatched to an abandoned car, which turned out to be the stolen Mercedes — now out of gas.

Cops found his fingerprints in the vehicle, along with discarded food containers from Tom’s BBQ.

Reyes allegedly robbed his ninth victim at gunpoint just after 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 and stole their GMC Sierra pickup truck.

That vehicle was found the next day in Chandler. In it, cops say they found Reyes' fingerprints. His Dodgers cap had also fallen through a hole in the bed of the truck in the midst of the robbery.

Reyes allegedly then robbed his 10th victim at gunpoint, forcing the victim into his home and making him strip so they could swap clothing. Reyes left his own behind before fleeing in the victim’s blue Ford Mustang.

He went to a grocery store where he reportedly robbed yet another victim at gunpoint, stealing their silver Jeep Grand Cherokee for his return to Mesa.

There, Reyes allegedly ran into the garage of a twelfth victim just before 5 p.m. and nabbed their Infiniti Q40, also at gunpoint. He abandoned the Cherokee at the scene.

The Infiniti was finally found at the Tempe Marketplace on Oct. 4, with Reyes' fingerprints located in the car along with the camouflage shirt he’d taken from the tenth victim.

The Infiniti owner reported that several credit cards had also been stolen. Two of those were used in several instances after the carjacking, including once on Oct. 6 at a Scottsdale food store where Reyes was seen on camera making a purchase.

A handgun that had been loaded with red-tipped ammunition was found in the hotel room where Reyes eventually surrendered.
