Arizona man sentenced to 30 years for 2019 murder

The United States Attorney's Office District of Arizona announced on Thursday that Brian Riggs, 51, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in connection with a 2019 murder.

The sentence, brought by District Judge Michael T. Liburdi, will see that Riggs, of Jeddito, spends 30 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.

Riggs was convicted of second-degree murder following the death, which occurred on Feb. 16, 2019.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office news release, emergency medical services had responded to a home on the Navajo Nation.

When crews arrived, they found the victim dead, after he sustained injuries over his entire body. The news release states that Riggs was the only other person at the house when the victim was killed, and the two were involved in an intimate relationship.

An investigation conducted by the FBI alongside the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety ultimately led to Riggs' later conviction following a seven-day jury trial.

No other information was released.
