March Madness: TCU ends Arizona State's season with late basket in NCAA Tournament game

Arizona State's season ended with some March Madness.

TCU's Jakobe Coles made a floater over Warren Washington with 1.5 seconds left to give TCU a 72-70 win over ASU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Denver after ASU had tied the game on a 3-pointer from DJ Horne with 12.4 seconds left.

The Sun Devils had at one point been down by 11 in the first half, but rallied to take an 11-point lead less than 4 minutes into the second half.

ASU led 65-57 with 4:38 left.

TCU's Mike Miles Jr. scored 26 points to lead all scorers. He went 12-for-14 from the free throw line.

Horne led ASU with 17 points.

The Sun Devils had 10 turnovers in the second half after recording just three in the first 20 minutes.

TCU won the game shooting 22-for-62 from the field and 8-for-23 from 3-point range.

The Horned Frogs hit 20 of 27 free throw attempts.

ASU went 25-for-52 from the field and 8-for-17 from 3-point range. It was 12-for-18 from the free throw line.

TCU had a 38-35 rebounding advantage that was a 14-7 advantage in offensive rebounds.

ASU, a No. 11 seed, finished the season 23-13.

TCU, a No. 6 seed, advances to play No. 3 seed Gonzaga in the second round on Sunday.

ASU's D.J. Horne hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to tie the game at 70 with 12.4 seconds left.

Mike Miles Jr. hit 1-of-2 free throws to extend TCU's lead to 70-67 with 21.8 left in the second half.

TCU takes lead late vs. ASU

Down 65-60, with 4:20 left, TCU has gone on a run to take a 69-67 lead with 32.6 seconds left in the second half.

ASU will have the ball and a chance to tie, or win the game. Both teams are in the double bonus at the free throw line.

ASU has two timeouts left.

Sun Devils clinging to lead against Horned Frogs

The Sun Devils are holding on to a 65-60 lead with 4:20 left in the second half.

TCU has hit a couple of clutch 3-pointers on its most recent two possessions to draw closer, but this game could be decided at the free throw line with all the fouls being called.

ASU is 12-for-16 in the game. TCU is 17-for-21.

ASU regains lead after TCU rally

TCU rallied to tied the game at 54-54, but ASU then scored five straight points to rebuild a 5-point lead, 59-54 with 7:52 left in the second half.

Fouls could start to play a big part in this game as both teams have been called for 17 fouls and are in the bonus in the second half.

Sun Devils go stagnant vs. Horned Frogs

The Sun Devils have struggled to score since taking a 52-41 lead with 16:31 left in the second half. ASU has just two points since, which came at the free-throw line.

TCU has pulled within 54-48 with 11:17 left in the half.

The Sun Devils have gotten sloppy. They now have six turnovers in the second half after having just three in the entire first half.

Mike Miles Jr. making presence felt again for TCU vs. ASU

Mike Miles Jr. has 22 of TCU's 46 points in this game as the Horned Frogs have whittled the ASU lead down to 52-46 with 13:15 left in the second half.

He is 11-for-12 from the free throw line in the game.

ASU builds 11-point lead early in second half

The Sun Devils are putting on a show early in the second half against the Horned Frogs in Denver.

Arizona State has outscored TCU 8-4 to start the half, and those points have included some monstrous dunks, electrifying the crowd.

Mike Miles Jr. started the second half for TCU, which was good news for the Horned Frogs after he left the game with 1:13 left in the first half, but he hasn't scored yet in the second half.

ASU takes 7-point lead into half vs. TCU

The Sun Devils have a 44-37 lead on TCU at the half in Denver.

ASU trailed at one point by 11 points, but has rallied for the 7-point halftime advantage.

The Sun Devils did it with balanced scoring. Six players have at least five points. After a slow start from the field, ASU is shooting 16-for-27 in the game (59.3%). It is 6-for-10 from 3-point range.

After a hot start from the field, TCU is now just 12-for-31 in the game and 4-for-10 from 3-point range.

It was a very clean first half, with ASU turning the ball over three times and TCU turning it over just once.

The bench has 18 points for ASU with Jamiya Neal, Alonzo Gaffney and Luther Muhammad scoring five each. TCU only had six points off the bench in the first half, all by Jakobe Coles.

Mike Miles Jr. leaves game vs. ASU

TCU star Mike Miles Jr. left the game after an emphatic dunk with 1:13 left in the first half. Miles appeared to land awkwardly after the dunk, which made the score ASU 37, TCU 35.

Miles leads all scorers with 16 points in the game and would obviously be a huge loss for TCU. He was shown limping off the court at the half.

Arizona State hot from deep vs. TCU

ASU is now 4-for-8 from 3-point range against TCU and that has helped the Sun Devils take a 32-30 lead in the game.

Desmond Cambridge Jr. and D.J. Horne just made 3-pointers on consecutive possessions for the Sun Devils.

Frankie Collins recently picked up his second foul, giving ASU three players with two fouls each.

Arizona State battles back against TCU

The Sun Devils have battled back from an early 11-point deficit in what has now become a back-and-forth affair in Denver. ASU took its first lead at 20-19 and now trails 25-24 with 7:44 left in the first half.

ASU is shooting 10-for-18 form the field, compared to 8-for-18 for TCU, but the Horned Frogs have a big advantage at the free throw line, having gone 7-for-8 to ASU's 2-for-2.

ASU has been called for seven fouls and Devan Cambridge and Duke Brennan each have two.

The bench already has 14 points for Arizona State.

TCU's Mike Miles Jr. has nine points to lead all scorers.

Arizona State goes on a run vs. TCU

The Sun Devils went on a 9-0 run and started shooting the ball better, and defending better, to pull within 17-15 with 11:28 left in the first half.

ASU is now 6-for-12 from the field. Jamiya Neal has five early points off the bench for ASU.

TCU is now 6-for-11 from the field. One possible area of concern: ASU has five early fouls in the game, although no player has more than one. TCU has been whistled for two fouls.

TCU red-hot to start game, Arizona State not

The Sun Devils trail the Horned Frogs at the first break in action, 15-4, in a reversal of fortune for ASU in its First Four game on Tuesday night.

TCU is 6-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from 3-point range. Its only miss has come at the free throw line, where the Horned Frogs are 1-for-2.

ASU is 2-for-8 from the field and 0-for-3 from 3-point range.

Can the Sun Devils get something going after the timeout? They almost led the game against Nevada from wire-to-wire. In this game, they will have to battle back to get a victory.

TCU jumps out to early lead on ASU basketball

The Horned Frogs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on the Sun Devils two minutes into the game and led 10-2 with 16:41 left in the first half. They had a 13-2 lead with 16:10 left in the first half.

TCU made its first four shots of the game. ASU started 1-for-7 from the field.

Lisa Byington is scheduled to do play-by-play for the game, with the announcing crew also including Steve Smith and Avery Johnson as analysts and Andy Katz as a reporter.

TCU is a 4.5-point favorite over Arizona State in the game.

It is -195 on the moneyline and ASU is +165.

The over/under for the game is 141.5 points.

ASU (23-12) advanced to this game with a 98-73 win over Nevada in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio on Wednesday.

TCU went 21-12 overall on the season.
