One of the area's biggest annual events is set to return this weekend.

The Ark-La-Miss Fair opens Friday and will run through Oct. 8 on the grounds of the Monroe Civic Center, 401 Lea Joyner Memorial Expressway, Monroe.

In addition to the rides and carnival games by Belle City Amusements, the fair will feature agricultural displays, livestock shows, baked goods, arts and crafts, jellies, jams, preserves, sewing projects and quilts which will be judged and on exhibit inside the civic center conference hall.

Sponsored by the West Monroe Civitan Club, proceeds from the fair have supported the club's community projects, such as the Civitan Smiles Park at Kiroli Park. Last year, Fair Board Chairman Mike Shields said the organization has given between $25,000 and $50,000 back to the community.

Admission will be $6 for adults and $4 for kids ages 2−11.

Here is a schedule of the opening weekend for the Ark-La-Miss Fair:

Friday, Sept. 29

  • 5 p.m.: Midnight fair gate ticket booth open

  • 5 p.m.: Carnival, arena exhibit booths open

  • 5 p.m.: Glory Land Petting Zoo opens − Pavilion behind Civic Center Arena

  • 5 p.m.-midnight: Midnight Louisiana Lottery Stage − Kyle Thompson Band

  • 5 p.m.-1 a.m.: Friday Night Magic All-Rides Wristbands − $25

Saturday, Sept. 30

  • 1 p.m.-closing: Fair gates open, carnival, arena exhibit booths open

  • 1 p.m.: Glory Land Farm Petting Zoo − Pavilion behind Civic Center Arena

  • 1 p.m.-midnight: Special Saturday wristband all day, all night to closing − $30

  • 7-11 p.m.: Louisiana Lottery Stage − Taverns to Tabernacles

Sunday, Oct. 1

  • 1 p.m.: Fair gates open, carnival, arena exhibit booths open

  • 1 p.m.: Glory Land Farm Petting Zoo opens − Pavilion behind Civic Center Arena

  • 1 p.m.−closing: Sunday Special wristband all day, all nigh to closing − $30

  • 5-9 p.m.: Louisiana Lottery Stage − Avery Michael
