Arkansas baseball smashes Oklahoma State in 7-inning run-rule win

The last time Arkansas baseball met Oklahoma State was in the highest-scoring regional in NCAA Tournament history. Eight months later, the No. 6 Razorbacks had a rematch with the No. 8 Cowboys to conclude the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas.

Arkansas' offense was as hot Sunday as it had been in the Stillwater Regional. The Razorbacks scored five runs in three different innings on their way to a 17-1 win that ended in seven innings.

Left-fielder Jared Wegner was the star, leading the way with five RBIs. The Creighton transfer had a bases-loaded triple and a two-run home run.

Seven total Razorbacks batted in runs, and Kansas transfer Tavian Josenberger added Arkansas' second home run of the game.

The Razorbacks finished the weekend 2-1 after beating No. 24 Texas and falling to No. 17 TCU.

Hunter Hollan's start

Jaxon Wiggins was projected to be Arkansas' third starter before tearing the UCL in his elbow just before the season. Instead, Arkansas started right-handed pitcher Hunter Hollan against the Cowboys. The junior is new to the Razorbacks after transferring from junior college.

Hollan had a solid outing, going four innings with two walks, five strikeouts and one earned run.

Lineup changes

Arkansas' lineup stayed the same in its first two games at the College Baseball Showdown. On Sunday, coach Dave Van Horn made some changes.

Parker Rowland, a junior college transfer, started at catcher in place of Hudson Polk. Polk had gone 2-for-8 with a single and a home run in Arkansas' first two games. On Sunday, Rowland went 0-for-2 with a run, a walk, and two RBIs.

Van Horn also started freshman Jayson Jones at third base over Caleb Cali. Cali had struck out in seven of his eight plate appearances in the first two games. Jones went 0-for-2 with three walks, two runs and a strikeout.
