Arkansas basketball lands Wichita State's Ricky Council IV, Razorbacks' fifth transfer commitment

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas basketball coach Eric Musselman's transfer portal class just got bigger.
Former Wichita State guard Ricky Council IV announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Tuesday. He chose Arkansas over Kansas, Mississippi State, Alabama and others.
Council is Arkansas' fifth transfer addition, but he is the first guard to come to Fayetteville from the portal. Trevon Brazile from Missouri, Jalen Graham from Arizona State and Makhi and Makhel Mitchell from Rhode Island are all forwards joining Musselman's squad.
Council will be a sophomore next season and have three years of eligibility remaining. He had two seasons at Wichita State thanks to eligibility changes due to the pandemic. Last season with the Shockers, he averaged 12 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. A native of Durham, N.C., Council was a three-star prospect out of high school in the class of 2019.

Arkansas' 2022-23 roster is full of new faces, with a No. 2-ranked recruiting class coming in from the high school ranks. The recruiting class includes six players, plus the now five transfer additions. Three players from last season have transferred out of the program, but Arkansas is still short on available scholarships.
A Division I program can have 13 scholarship players on its roster. With Kamani Johnson and Davonte Davis, returning as scholarship players and 11 newcomers, the Razorbacks are at the roster limit with Jaxson Robinson's recent departure. That doesn't include Jaylin Williams, who declared for the NBA Draft without hiring an agent and could return.
